Help me! I’m going to a formal event in two weeks. I can either wear shoes that I currently own(strappy, gold Zanotti stillettos), or go out and buy a pair.
I live in NYC, where March is making its exit into rainy April – is it still too early to wear open shoes? Should I be searching for a closed-toe? I cringe when I see exposed toes in weather-inappropriate situations. Also, may one wear flats with a full-length gown?
Love your site, and am eager to receive your advice!
It is the secret shame to have the love of the Richard Gere in the Breathless of the 80’s but to have never watched the Paul of the Belmondo in the original…Manolo you remind me…
The French are probably also listening to the Stones. Oh, and Samara, if you are leaping from car to event and back to car, it is OK to wear strappy sandals (unless the streets are flooded), but if you are strolling around I would be cautious if I were you. I was once caught out in the second week of April in an unfortunate match of weather and shoe. The day began sunny and mild and cloudless, and so I ventured far into Brooklyn with my feet displayed in pretty red strappy high-heeled sandals. Then it began to snow. Then the wind began to blow. Then I ended up borrowing a friend’s baggy sweatshirt and some cargo pants for warmth, but had to wear my silly shoes with that outfit all the way home in the cold.
This is in response to both what the Carl and the Manolo were discussing; that is, the Manolo sharing thoughts on what he is reading, watching and listening to. I am glad the Manolo has a book blog, and I will endeavour to check it regularly. However in the Tuesday shoeblog post I would far prefer a small summary in the Manolo’s own words rather than the link to the amazon.com that is generally provided. It is the sad fact that I rarely follow these links as it is time consuming and often frustrating to only get the commercial blurb about the media and not the Manolo’s witty thoughts. Thus ends my two cents, greatly devalued I am sure as they are not in the American of the dollars.

You read, watch and listen to interesting things, classics. It would be nice if you could share a word or two with us about your responses.
