Don’t cry, Rahulio. There are more big-hearted people here than you might imagine, who will embrace you as part of the community of the blog of the Manolo. Yes, people here (me included) will sometimes make the sharp remark. Sometimes these remarks are deserved and sometimes they are not. But the spirit is generally lighthearted, and life in the blog (and elsewhere) goes on.

I am loving the Manolo! The Manolo, he is like, my hero! The Rahulio would build a statue in a nice park with the trees to honorize the Manolo, but sadly, the Rahulio is not a mayor or even a city councillor. If the Manolo he is angry with the Rahulio, the Rahulio he will cry and feel so so no magnifico. But the Rahulio, he is hoping that the Manolo can be Manolo the Magnanimous and be kind to the Rahulio who is admitting to be just a pale imitation of the greatness.

The Manolo is indeed super fantastic! The Rahulio always acknowledged his debt to the Manolo (The Rahulio always linked to the Manolo from the begining and always told his friends to go visit the Manolo), but not at all to Lynda J. Barry’s comic about Rahoolio the Latin Lovar - Sandy T, she is very astute and Lynda J. Barry she is also super fantastic! Some mean ugly people might say that the Lynda J. Barry’s Rahoolio character pre-dated the Manolo, but I say, please! We will not nit pick!

I apologize. I have neither the taste nor discretion of The Manolo. He is truly a gentleman. However, people have the right to express their opinions, as I have mine and you have yours. I am sure The Manolo would forgive me, and hope his admirers would do the same. Everyone has moments of weakness, and I beg forgiveness of those more restrained. Thanks.

On the one hand The Scarlett has indeed echoed the speech-style of the Manolo here on this very site. Why? Because it is fun and The Manolo is all about fun! But on the other hand, The Scarlett does not do so on The Scarlett’s own blog; she uses her own voice there. Why? Because she knows the difference between homage (using the speech-style here) and offensive (stealing someone else’s trademark). On the third, non-existent hand, The Scarlett thinks that the celebrity jewelry is a really fun arena in which to delve; she agrees that The Rahulio writes better when not copying syntax. On the fourth hand (borrowed from her darling hubby), The Scarlett thinks that The Manolo is even more generous than she ever imagined.

I second what “good grief!” said. It always weirds me out just a little when I see the Manolo’s speech-style echoed so pervasively in comments here. I mean, it’s a GOOD style, and I’m not ragging on those who choose to flatter Manolo by so doing - after all, when in Rome and all that - but.. it DOES seem odd to me that people’d rag so hard on this other guy, when so many of the regular commentors here do the same thing.

For the record, it’s not just Manolo - for instance, I get the same weirded-out feeling when I read TomatoNation’s advice column, The Vine, and see people describe their problems as “blah blah whatever-cakes.” That’s a Sars-ism, and I alway wonder if she doesn’t roll her eyes a little bit when everyone else is copying it. I’m just not as gracious or generous a soul as The Manolo or Sars and other people are, I guess, because although I think it’s flattering to do the occasional one-off in homage, I’d go nuts if I had to see it as consistently as they do.

I’m delighted to see that our Manolo is as large-spirited and classy as I’ve always suspected - you’re a true gentleman, and an asset to the blogging community and to the world at large. “Muchos besos,” indeed.
