It is sort of Japanese-goth-lolita and NYC-brat at the same time. I don't want to see my boss wearing it, but for cool NYC schoolgirls it is a fine mixture of shiny, serious, and sensible, with a sense of humor. The Manolo is right: without the rhinestone buckle, it would be just another ugly flat. It is much better than the habit the children had last year of wearing the cheap Indian suede moccassin with the beading on the vamp, which one child of my acquaintance informed me was the height of 7th grade fashion. Also, the child told me that socks were to be cuffed down so that the top of the sock-cuff was only barely visible above shoe. When I said, Why wear socks at all?
