And then there is the issue of supporting a repressive regime when you buy the shoes of the Chinese.

Although the shoes of the Italy — they, too, have the Communists. At least the Chinese, they can say they have the communism at the point of the gun, not at the ballot box.

These shoes are choked up high enough that they will not flap flap if properly fitted. The super fantastic girl who wears the excellent shoes should always take the time to find the proper fit!

I cannot speak highly enough of the mules from the Coach (as well as any other Coach shoes I own, and the purses which are indestructible). I have some lovely pink suede mules from last season that still fill me with delight each time I wear them.

Yes, you get the thwack thwack, but for me, that is part of the charm. And if you have much practice in the walking in the mules, you can reduce the thwack thwack to a gentle tip tap.

It seems you feel about the mules the way I feel about the high heeled thongs–to me the most uncomfortable shoes ever invented.

The beautiful mules in the glorious green color with the perfect height heel.. why, oh why, are they not availible for the ladies with the petite feet. The jj, her heart is breaking.

Sorrowfully, I must agree with El Capitan, at least about the thwap-thwap of the mules. As much as they are lovely in form, they cause the foot and leg cramps when the walking is done for any amount of time, and they are most unstable. The love of mules now occupy space in my mental file cabinet of desire with the cropped jackets and wide leg capris, teeny tiny handbags and the other items which are delightful much more so in concept than in execution.

I can’t keep the mules on the feet, no matter how hard I try I simply end up with the toe cramps. And yes of course we all must agree with the Manolo re: Italian vs. Chinese, and my super-fantastic shoe repairman, Mr. Fontana of 10th St., adds,
“Spain, you must never buy the shoes from the Spain. Only EEt-a-lee. These shoes from the Spain, feh!”

I agree with el Capitan: the mules, they are cute when you buy them, and then when you wear them, it’s SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP. They are house-slippers pretending to be pumps. And then the horror if, in a sudden dash across the pavement, you step OUTSIDE of one. Your foot just neatly pops right out, and there you are, half-shod on the sidewalk. The clumsiness!
