Yup born and raised in Washington State I must say I too wore cotton rag socks with the birkinstock type shoes as a teenager and up until about 20. I tried it here in Virginia Beach once.............once.

Like someone else said, athletes are exempt. Especially soccer players.

Seattle prides itself on "outdoor chic"..... so it will come as no surprise to the readers of the Manolo to hear that women in Seattle, doubtless the wives of the men who wear the socks with the sandals, in the winter wear the FUZZY WOOLY TIGHTS with their business suits. Yes, even the suits of the Brothers Brooks.

If an earthquake crumbles most of the city into the Puget Sound, it will be only the Gods of Decency and Dignity seeking to avenge themselves.

Pdotfu is, alas, correct regarding footwear in Seattle. I once saw a couple sporting the woolly sock/Birkenstock combo coordinated with outfits suitable for raking leaves or other sundry yardwork…at the opera.

This might be explained by the connection between sock-with-sandal wearing computer geeks (see the first picture on the website) and Seattle's connection to Microsoft.

Of course, this is not an excuse, but given what most Techie guys wear, socks with sandals are only a moderate faux pas.

For most men, of course, socks-with-sandals merits the firing squad.

And not in the cheap seats, either.

The Lisa says yay for the gay guys and their poor wee injured cat, what with the blowing out of the water the "gays are always well-dressed" stereotype.

So, so sad.

What's even worse is that my own dear Dad fits right in with those guys. He's not British, so he has no real excuse. (You hear that, Pops? No excuse!)
