Today happens to be my birthday and as I reflect on the past, I have come to the realization that I have dedicated a large portion of my life to shoes. My mother believes that my obsession started as a child because I could never find my shoes. For example, one day I was running to catch the school bus and a snow drift sucked off my shoe! Everyone on the bus was watching me act like a crazy person while I anxiously attempted to dig out my shoe. After awhile, my hands went numb and I had to abandon the search and rescue. The trauma has caused me to over-stock my shoe supply; I currently have ~100 pairs and at least 15 FAVORITIES. I practically cry when I have finally let go of one of those (the shoe repair man generally has to console me after he delivers the news). I also design shoes in my dreams and I have some great shoe storage ideas! In addition, since I am a uniformed officer I am forced to wear the most dreadful, hideous, and overall bland shoes 5 days a week, therefore my weekend shoes have to be more than stylish, they need personality. So if it isn’t obvious, my birthday wish is to find a glorious new pair of shoes ;-)

Do not worry. The Manolo he has decided to cover the costs of the international shipping, or, if the need it arises, to work out the method of getting the prizes to the international person who is the winner.

The Manolo, he would not let his many internet international friends down.

Aaay! Manolo, I have discovered a problem! The websites from whence your prizes come do not ship to international locations! The pitiable Australian super fantastic girls cannot gain from entering such a contest, and it makes us weep.

ps) thank you for your reply to my earlier question. Truly you are the blogging master!

Yes, you may enter the contest more than one of the times as long as the essay it is sent on the different days.

I ask the Manolo, can one person enter twice, provided it is not on the same day? I have two essays I wish to give to the Manolo as an offering of sacrifice!

My entry in your contest:

I am a starving artist and really need to win this contest! I have been wearing the same shoes for three years now! (Except in the summer, I do own a pair of sandals.) But I love that pair of shoes. I wear them every day to my art studio which has big windows and good light, but no direct sunlight. So it is very cold in there most of the time. One day last winter the sun came in my condo window and warmed my shoes for me just before I left for work. Ahhhhhhh! That was heaven! My feet stayed warm for almost a half hour. It has never happened again even though I move my shoes to different spots hoping the sun will come in and warm them. Now, any day I feel a little sad about not selling my art, I just remember the warm shoes and it makes me happy!

Friends don't let friends wear ponchos. I think I would rather die than crochet a poncho.

I would put Red Heart in the same category as Walmart Shoes. I do think the quality of Payless Shoe Source is higher than that of Walmart. So I maintain it's an apt analogy.

Well, I tried to find out if Walmart sells Red Heart yarn, and the website doesn't list any yarns at all, but they do list Lion Brand products. So they sell Lion Brand at Walmart.

I wouldn't compare Lionbrand with Payless, Red Heart would be more accurate for that. Lionbrand isn't the bottom, it's midrange.

This opinion comes from someone who has knit her own wedding ring shawl of cobweb weight Shetland wool. I am not a novice knitter, nor do I work with shoddy yarns. And I do not knit ponchos. ;)

Oh, Manolo, Lion Brand? It must be ignorance. If Payless Shoe Source gave you prizes for the contest, would you use them? Please, don't tell me that the yarn is Fun Fur (tacky, tacky, tacky). I just don't know what to think.
