The Imelda, she is definitely resplendent, and looking rather well for the woman who has passed her eightieth year. But the Annalucia is not sure if she merits the title of “patroness.” From all that the Annalucia has heard, the Imelda’s shoe collection runs well into the three (if not the four) figures. This indicates great appetite, surely, but not necessarily the qualities of discernment and right judgment that one would hope for in a candidate for canonization. Perhaps the matter should be sent back to committee for further discussion?
with her shoes matching her dress so well the Imelda, she looks like the Bridesmaid.
The husband of mine called me from a shoe store last night and he was buying me the shoes of the Fluevog.
Oh my goodness. What a shock to see the Imeldific on Manolo’s blog. When her closet was raided, they found a pair of rainbow patterned platform sandals with battery powered colored Christmas lights.
A new level of shoe obsession.
She’s still alive?
As someone who has a closet full of shoes himself, to quote Beverly Feldman, “Too much is not enough!”
It is odd that the Manolo decided to present the Imelda Marcos to his reading faithful when one of The Bloody Munchkin’s (Formerly the Bis Nation) entries into the essay contest of the awesomeness involved the very patron saint herself. Coincidence, no?
Resplendent? Shouldn’t that be “repugnant”? B*tch stole billions from Filipinos. Shame on you, Manolo. You’d do well to find a more suitable “blessed patron saint” for your site.
Ayyyyy! The Manolo he is taking the verbal beating these last few days!
What with the angry knitters yelling about the Manolo giving away of the yarn of the Lion Brands, and the peoples who disagree about the suitability of the white shoes after the Day of Labor, and now the Pinoys they are after the Manolo for the little joke about the Imelda.
Happily, the Manolo he does not shy away from the controversy.
Imelda Marcos as The Corpse Bridesmaid.
We all know that the inestimable Miuccia is the real patron saint of this site. (Anonymous was right to call Imelda a bitch; personally I would have chosen a stronger word!)
Have to agree with with Annalucia, Anon, and Liz above, though there’s little worth discussing regarding Imelda. She’s bad news all around, Manolo.
Are we through trashing Imelda and her shoes ladies?? May we now return to the serious side of life and shoes? Please?
She is not worthy of your superfantastic-ness Manolo.
PS. You used Pinoy! The Manolo is so in the know. I am in awe.
Manolo, I have happily defended you against the angry knitters. Ay, some people! They need to get the life.
Juvy is in awe with the Sari-sari! Manolo is seriously in the know…
and yes, Imelda = bad lady.
I can’t believe she looks that good. Are we sure she isn’t someone else? A doppelganger, perhaps? Dare I say it, A CLONE? (The girls from Manila???)
She was wretched, and Manolo knows that. It was dark humor, not serious, folks.
Come on, get real – since when do human rights supersede fashion?
Political correctness vs. shoes? Hello people, get your priorities straight!
For whatever she has done politically incorrect…let’s face it. She did revolutionize the shoe world, made it okay for us to shop for more shoes..and more shoes and more shoes. Just have that matching outfit and shoes. Someone needs to send her a designer clothing, who ever that person is making her outfits must live in the bundoks.
Shopgirl44…YOU ARE AN IDIOT! You need to come out of the BOONDOCKS and realize that Imelda’s outfit is the national dress of her native country. And to reiterate SHOPGIRL44 IS AN IDIOT!
Ayyy! The Manolo he must remind his internet friends that politeness it is the golden coin of the realm here at the blog of the Manolo.
Well said Manolo. And while I myself heartily disagree with Shopgirl44′s sentiments, it was amusing to see that she used the word “bundoks” which, in its proper form “bundok”, is the Filipino word for mountain, from which the American colloquialism “boondocks” is derived.
As for her outfit (and this one is for all the fashionistas), Madame – as she likes to be called – is wearing a version of a “Terno” which is, as Chark Attack points out, indeed a traditional Filipino dress.
I don’t care what you guys say about Imelda. I adore her, and not just because I was born the same island she was. In one of her New York crash pads she has a pillow that says “Noveau riche is better than no riche.” Anyone who has a pillow that say such is fine by me. Vulgarity is the new discreet!
I can only hope that hell has a lazy boy set aside w/ her name on it.
We have all become too PC. “Sometimes a Cigar is just a cigar.” Thanks for the UN-PC jokes Manolo.
let us not let her political background meddle with the beautifulness of her shoe collection. aye manolo, i shall agree with you that she even with her age, she carries herself with much finesse. her aura is truly great.
and this is coming from a pinay.
I read in a book (by Imelda’s lawyer, I should mention) that her 300 or so shoes are donations from the Philipino shoe factories, so that they can say the lady wears their shoes. This sounds plausible, but what bearing it has on the matter of shoe style, unseemly luxury, and virtue, I dare not guess.
