I'd love to have a word or two with whoever brought shorts back into fashion. (Those words being "screw" and "you.") And if you have anything bigger than an A cup of course suspenders are going to look ridiculous. As for the oversized draped styles, though, better them than yet another visual assault of bra bulge and muffin tops. Unless you count the gangsta look (which I'd argue is outside mainstream fashion and therefore inapplicable), far more people err on the side of too tight.
