agreed – my beloved pink mini did not make it even five months before it’s battery was totally shot. the big blue store (aka best buy) had a warranty on it, so I was able to get it replaced because the click wheel had also stopped working.
Well, Apple has admitted that the inexplicable-screen-crack thing is a real problem and they’re sending free nanos to people who run into it. Apple says it’s a manufacturing flaw and it only affected a couple of production runs.
The scratches are a different thing, since the screen, Apple insists, is made of the same plastic it’s used in other music players. Its official advice is “Get a case.” Perhaps this would not present a problem for the Manolo, who would naturally be inclined to protect the nano with a tasteful and functional case.
Also, a high-capacity flash player like this should be less fragile (well, aside from the screen thing) than a similar-capacity hard-drive player. With no moving parts, flash players generally have better battery life than hard-drive players, and I haven’t heard yet that the nano shares the Mini’s well-known battery-life issues.
I work in this area (obviously :) ) and I encourage the Manolo to go for it and get a nano. Even if it’s just because it’s beautiful!
In this household we have two iPods and a Shuffle and my husband is positively chomping at the bit for a Nano…his birthday approached…do I smell a gift idea?
WiseAcre, I disagree. Do you expect the Manolo to give us all this good information about shoes and entertainment value for free? Of course he is getting a little something from the advertising. I don’t see a problem with that! It is a win-win situation, since we are not paying to read this most enlightening blog.
The Manolo has never made a secret of his commercial interests – and why should he?
But, to address the post and not the WiseAcre: Say it ain’t so, Manolo. I have always imagined that The Manolo strolled the highways and byways signing a happy tune, not zoned out in his own earbuds.
Have you been to an Apple store to play with one up close and personal? They are such lovely, cute little toys.
I’ve had my mini for a year and a half, and have never had a problem with the battery, click wheel, etc. It has its own knitted protective ‘sock’, and it’s happy as a button. I plan on keeping Baby Pod for quite a while, but it would also be fabulous to have a sweet little Nano.
The valuable time of the Manolo, it must be paid for somehow. Surely no one prefers to read the dreary shoeblogging of the clueless and humorless, free of commerce though it may be!
It’s a fair market and a free choice – if you don’t like the Manolo don’t read him, and if you prefer not to support him don’t click on the links. And don’t get your panties in a bunch if some of us are happy to support the Manolo with the monies as well as the cheers……..it’s the American way.
We are a three pod family (one mini…moi … one 3rd Gen … one 4th Gen … that is iPod speak for “we have pods … lots of pods”). I am still lusting after a black Nano.
Oh, and this is a lovely page from the Neiman Marcus Christmas book that I just received this week. I love the cases but I especially love the Gucci pet accessories especially the Gucci dog hat.

Just be careful. The Nano has a flaw. The screens are cracking and scratching very easily.

…but the nano still looks extremely enticing :)
