Manolo Takes Note

Manolo says, the Vogue in the UK, they have the few words about the Manolo the Shoeblogger.

A NEW YORKER who goes by the name Manolo the Shoeblogger has been delighting the fashion pack this year with bitchy snippets about high-profile individuals, calling John Galliano, for instance, a “freaky little fashion troll” and Gerard Depardieu “slovenly and outwardly repulsive”. Rather disappointingly, the cutting remarks haven’t been coming from Manolo Blahnik himself, although the great man doesn’t seem at all bothered by the gossip the cyber blog has generated. “Manolo the Shoeblogger? Sorry, not me. But it’s very funny, isn’t it? Hilarious,” Blahnik told The Times.

The correct quote about the Galliano, it is “funky little fashion troll.

And as for the Depardieu, the full quote, it is “yes the Depardieu he is slovenly and outwardly repulsive, but at the same time is there not something magnetic?”

The Manolo he tries not to be overly cruel.

UPDATE: Ayyyy! The Manolo’s internet friend, the La Lola, she has pointed out that the Manolo he has indeed, on at least one of the occasions, referred to the Galliano as the “freaky little fashion troll” (although the phrase “funky little fashion troll,” it is far more common). And now the Manolo he must apologize to those whom he has mischaracterized as mischaracterizing him.

I am sure that some of us understand that the Manolo?
is nothing if not a gentleman.

You should write these people and set the story straight.

Honestly, they get you all wrong when they misquote! Hell, the misquotes are sorta bitchy and not funny at all.

  3. La Lola Says:

Actually, you *have* called Galliano a “freaky little fashion troll”. It’s in the first post in the Galliano section, way near the bottom. However, you do more often refer to him a “funky” and have, on many occasions, called his designs beautiful. The Depardieu quote was cut off just plain too early, though! Bad form on their part, I say!

Ayyyy! The La Lola, she is correct. The Manolo he has referred to the Galliano as the “freaky little fashion troll”

But he is muchly amusing, Galliano, whoop!

Besides, how is it possible not to see the basic good nature of a man who worships both the Maestro Manolo Blahnik and the Hoff? Clearly this is a spiritually balanced individual.

  7. Donna B Says:

I think there is something wonderful and other-worldly about the Manolo’s ability to be both funny and sweet in his analysis of shoe and people.

But Manolo, a New Yorker? I always thought you lived in LA, or were bi-coastal, with a special interest in Philadelphia….I prefer to think of you as Everyman.
