You have to control for the Soviet period, when the availability was so poor. I am amazed he was able to collect as much as he has. The choices were brown boots or grey sandals (in the 80s, I recall those bright blue plastic shoes you can see on the right hand side of the photo). Re: the travesty of the Crocs, in the Harvard Square, there is a shoe store which is now displaying heaps and heaps of multi-colored Crocs on an outdoor table. They are priced at ten of the American dollars, but I believe they are merely hoping that someone comes along and takes them away.

How right you are, Miss Clairol! The Wal-Mart, it has many tens of thousands of shoes, but not the tiniest fraction of class that the Manolo has in his littlest finger.

As an aside, the Crocs, they are becoming a travesty of themselves, seen on the streets of Seattle adorned with stickers on the feet of men old enough to vote.

AskMom must now have a hot bath and a hotter rum toddy.

Lauren, I too noticed that … even if they weren’t the Crocs, those shoes negate the awesomeness of having 10,000 pairs of shoes in a one-room apartment. We all know that in the Manolo’s collection, every pair has to be super fantastic. So even if the Manolo has fewer shoes (and is it possible that there are 10,000 different pairs of super fantastic shoes in the world?), his collection has to be more awe-inspiring.

How many do you have?

PS Can you feature some shoes with heels that 2.5 inches (6 cm) and lower? I’m not adverse to flats, but just because a shoe heel isn’t 4 inches high, doesn’t mean that it’s flat. Thanks.
