Manolo’s Holiday Gift DVDs, Part I

Manolo says, previously the past week or so, the Manolo he has been suggesting the holiday gift book ideas for his many internet friends. But what to get the person who is not much of the reader? Or for the person who is addicted to the films?

Well, the Manolo he is here to help, by suggesting the few of the Manolo’s favorite DVDs, ones suitable for the giving as the gifts.

The Funniest Television Show Ever

Father Ted - The Holy Trilogy
Father Ted - The Holy Trilogy

The first three or the four episodes of the Father Ted they were probably the funniest thing the Manolo has ever seen. Three reprobate priests exiled onto the desolate Irish island. It does not sound promising, but it is, in the fact, absolutely brilliant, anarchic and brilliant, and guaranteed to make you laugh until you cannot breathe.

How the Manolo Thinks the Wild West Really Was

Deadwood - The Complete First Season
Deadwood the Complete First Season

It is perhaps not well known that the Manolo he is the connoisseur of the cowboy movies, from the worst to the best. And this series, it is one of the best media purchases of the Manolo during this past year.

Simply put, the Deadwood it is the masterwork of sorts. Alternately horrific and hilarious, it has the ring of historical and artistic truth to it. And the Manolo he cannot tell you how much he has enjoyed watching it.

Manolo’s Favorite Fashion Movie

Zoolander

There is no competition for the title of the Manolo’s Favorite Fashion Movie. Nothing can touch the Zoolander, one of the few recent movies with the Ben Stiller in which the Manolo does not find the Ben Stiller actively annoying. It is funny from the start (with the cameo in which the Evil One unveils his true malevolence) to the end. Funny, and yet at its core so true.

Father Ted is brilliant. Good choice.

  2. JayKay Says:

Oh how I LOVE Zoolander! SOOooOoOO many funny lines! Will Ferrell, genius. And of course, I dig the David Bowie cameo!
Sometimes my fiance and I will throw in the DVD just so we can skip to the scene where Mugatu spits his “foamy” latte all over his assistant and says something about how he gets farty and bloated with a foamy latte…the looks those two exchange after Mugatu’s rant are PRICELESS!
I also get laughing cramps from the look on Hansel’s face after Matilda confesses she was bulemic and Derek mistakes this for an ability to read minds…Hilarious!
This movie is a classic. I recommend it anyday! Cheers Manolo!

  3. Lisa Says:

The Father Ted is riotous, and the Lisa TIVO’d the marathon recently held on the BBCAmerica. (RIP the Dermot Morgan.) The Lisa also she is in love with the Ardal O’Hanlon and wants to have his Irish babies, but alas, the husband of the Lisa would beg to differ. Boo.

  4. Sandra Says:

I have danced (at an Ordination Party) with a bona fide Dancing Priest. Fantastic.
All together now: Girls! Arse! Feck! Drink!

  5. megan Says:

The Dougal is comfortable in his sweater vest.

  6. The Baron Says:

    M. Manolo, we think we have found a typographical error of yours - “Manolo says, *perv*iously the past week or so”. Perhaps Manolo could suggest the Pavlovian bra and the Jungian skirt to match the Freudian slip? The above, by-the-bye, is meant in jest and fun, and not as a slight against M. Manolo. We hope he will take it with both comity and hilarity.

  7. The Bloody Munchkin Says:

“Listen to Billy Zane, he’s a cool dude.” Words to live by…

  8. Manolo the Shoeblogger Says:

Ayyyyyy! Once again the Manolo he is undone by the error of the spelling!

  9. Rob D. Says:

“I’m sorry, did my needle get in the way of your ass?! Lose five pounds immediately, or get the hell out of my studio!”

  10. Christina Jones Says:

Oh Zoolander is right at the top of my favorite movies–it is a don’t miss for anyone, fashion lover or not!!

  11. West by southwest Says:

As another connoisseur of the cowboy movies. WbSW agrees that the Deadwood rocks them all, and Ian McShane rules.

  12. Lola Says:

The Manolo’s choice of Deadwood is indeed super#@%*&#@ing fantastic. It is a show I recently watched on the DVD, and I too was horrified yet fascinated.

I also can indeed do a very convincing Calamity of the Jane impression.

  13. Dawny Says:

Father Ted is the funniest show I have ever seen. I never miss it on BBC. Father Jack is the one of most insane character ever to be created
