Project Runway 2, Week 5
Manolo says, the Manolo he finally managed to see the last week’s episode of the Project Runway, and even though he knew what the outcome it would be, he was still most amused.
Here then are the few comments about each of the designers and their action in the previous week.
Marla: Good bye to the Marla, your peculiar combination of cluelessness and lack of cluefulness it shall not be missed.
Diana: The Paul Anka he said it best.
I don’t care just what they say
‘Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free as the birds up in the trees
Oh, please stay by me Diana
The Manolo he is so sad that the super nerdy Diana she had to go. Yes, she was always confounding the poor Tim Gunn with her futuristic visions of costumes suitable for wearing to the steampunk blimp-ports, and tiny, self-replicating AI robots that keep your jodphurs from falling down, but she was so adorable, like the esoteric, clothes-designing Hello Kitty.
Andrae: The Manolo he is beginning to warm to the Andrae, and his drama queen ways. He has some talent, and he seems very nice, if more than the little spacey/spastic.
Emmett: Is Manolo the only person who has noticed that the Emmett he is beginning to look like the deer in the headlights? The very tall, very well dressed and very polite deer in the headlights.
Zulema: Bravo to the Zulema for designing the beautiful dress in the record time. Mirabile dictu, she does have some talent after all. Of the course, she is still the unpleasant person.
Kara: The Kara, she always seems one sewing machine failure away from having the catatonic breakdown. If this it were the movie Airplane! the other passengers they would be lining up to slap her.
Nick: Manolo he has come to respect the Nick and his talent. He does his best, and it is usually very good.
Chloe: Always good. Boringly good. She will be one of the final three.
Daniel V.: The coolest of the designers. Manolo loves the Daniel V! He is talented, and has his own vision that is fun and youthful. He is confident without being the ego maniac. He is the good listener, and someone who does not panic when the pressure it is on. It is official, the Daniel V he is the Manolo’s new favorite.
Santino: What is there left to say about this unattractive, petty man? He has some wickety-wack talent, although, the more the Manolo sees, the less he thinks Miss Thang is all that. Of the course, any talent the Santino he does have it is almost completely obscured by his insecure, raving meglomania and jealousy.

I’ll miss Diana so much! Pairing with Marla was the kiss of death.

I liked Diana, but I do not see how she could have had a longer run. She has talent, but it is young talent, and has not been sharpened by time and experience.
I do wish Emmett would spend less time being silent and terrified. I like his designs, as they are always cool, clean, and surprising in just the right ways. But he does not believe in them. Thus he will probably go soon.

I am just glad that the promos for last week’s episode are thru running because if I had to hear Santino proclaim one more time, in his nasaly voice, with the jazz hands next to his face, that he can’t stand the sound of Diana’s voice, I might have jammed pencils into my ears just to make it stop.
Talk about not being able to tolerate one’s voice….sheeesh! Give it a rest, dude.

Ah Manolo, thanks for a very satisfying post. I’ll miss Diana. I’m completely on pins and needles waiting for tonight’s episode. Emmett is a real sport to don the hot pink skating blouse. The white fedora makes it even more amusing. Did you spot Zulema’s gold glitter eye shadow? She may have a sense of humer. We’ll see….

Oh Manolo -”raving megalomania” - perfecto! I can’t watch the shop because we don’t have cable - but your observations are so spot-on I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

Daniel V is my favourite too. I love daniel v. he is cute, talented, he makes beautiful things without stressing out too much and he’s not offending.

I agree that Emmett always looks stunned. I wish we saw more of his working method but I don’t wish he were less “quiet;” on this show less quiet seems to mean more obnoxious. Besides, he isn’t any more quiet than Daniel; the only difference is Daniel has won two challenges (although both of the wins were as a team . . . I’m just saying).
Poor Diana; hated to see her go but she just didn’t have what it takes. Not sorry to see Marla go, though; I think she had the worst outfit in almost every episode; I think she should have been out at the beginning.
So it’s decided: final three are Chloe, Daniel, and Nick! (I wish Emmett were in there but he won’t be)

Dearest Manolo, You are not the only one to notice that our dear Emmet disguises his utter lack of talent with snappy dress. Her Ladyship too was fooled by his carriage and pleasant demeanor but what has he done worth noticing. Santino the dear boy made one too many braided lanyards at boy scout camp. He is a braided one hit wonder, his overdone shreaded and braided schmattas all looks the same. Nick however has got something. Why can you not see his talent and versatility? Nick will be in the top 3 if not the winner. Daniel V is indeed impressive and his solution to his chocolate brown fiasco was fantastic but he needs to mature a little, he’ll be in the top 3 but her Ladyship would have to go with the super fantastic Nick to win.

I love the Daniel V as well. Santino is overrated and his stuff is so samey with all that knotting and crimping.
January 18th, 2006 at 5:25 pm
The Zulema, she is a biotch. Beautiful dress, but Moi does not like the ‘Tude.
The Nick, he has the eye. The Daniel V., he has the originality. The Andrae, he gets what the women want.
I am not much for the Chloe or the, how you say, Stuntino?
January 18th, 2006 at 7:51 pm
With all due respect, the Lady Prisspott needs to go back and look at all of Emmetts dresses. She may not find them all as beautiful as I do but if she can find one that is bad I will eat my hat. (full disclosure: I am not wearing a hat)
January 18th, 2006 at 7:56 pm
Ah, the Daniel V! Brilliant save last week with the party dress, sweet gesture to kiss the PMSed Kara. He has now replaced the Chloe in my Final Three. The others - Nick, & the Santino, who will be there only for the ratings.

I, like Zulema, was at my wits end with Kara, and was glad that someone verbally bitch-slapped her out of her downward spiral into full-blown hysteria. Not to say that I would not be tearing my hair out and crying, because I would – and do. And I know that in those moments, I need someone to verbally bitch-slap me, or else I am totally worthless.
I really feel for Mr. Very Polite Deer. Since his background is men’s fashion, I can only think that he is a little out of his element when designing for women. While it’s nice of the producers to give him a chance in this competition, I also think they were callously conducting a kind of experiment with him. “Hey, let’s throw in this guy who doesn’t know about women’s clothes! That ought to be good for some yuks.”
January 18th, 2006 at 10:30 pm
Yes, I agree with the Manolo. Daniel V. listens to the assignment, plays well with others, and creates nice, cohesive, youthful designs. Good execution and vision without getting too “high-concept.”
I will not even mention those who irritate me, they do not get to receive my word energy.

Thank you wonderful Manolo for giving the oh-so-charming Daniel V the official blessing of best in show! The Daniel V, he is not only talented and charming, but has the shaggy-dog pop star look that says to the Twistygirl, “move over lead singer of the Strokes!” All hail the tasty little Daniel V, he puts the twisty in this Twistygirl.

Emmett=very polite TALL deer with a slow, stately walk.
Santino has some serious ‘listening issues’ that’ won’t serve him well in the fashion world.
I loves me some Nick, Daniel V. and Chloe. They are my final 3 picks.
Oh, and I suggest that someone should auction off a lunch with Tim Gunn for some charity because I would absolutely bid an obscene amount of money for such an opportunity!
January 19th, 2006 at 10:44 am
I really really hate Santino. LOVE love love Chloe. If Chloe really had her own fashion line, I would def buy the clothes!
January 19th, 2006 at 12:41 pm
Eric3000; episode 7. Bon appetit.
January 20th, 2006 at 12:02 am
I also love the Nick! And the Daniel! I hope they make it into the final 3.
Not to mention that the Daniel V., he is smoking hot to both the ladies and the gentlemen.

Great article about Diana and her happy geeky-dom as well as come of her upcoming activities here on CNET’s news.com today. Lots of quotes from Tim Gunn and comments from Diana.

Oh I LOVED Diana b/c she was just adorable! Santino was right about her though, she’s very . . . “mousey” shall we say? She doesn’t know how to be aggressive IMO.
And Manolo, your descriptions hit all of them on the head! I love Chloe, even if she is boringly good
