La BellaDonna confesses that she has loved the monkstrap shoe for the mens for years. She would hunt endlessly for the monkstrap, during the years when it was unfashionable, for the demanding yet undeserving Despicable Ex (who had little to recommend him other than that his footgear, at least, was that of the gentleman).

It is the Known Fact that for the gentlemens with the craving for the exotic, it can best be fulfilled by the garment known as The Dressing Gown. Almost any opulent combination of colourful brocades and velvets can take place, there in the privacy of the gentleman's home, and be completely acceptable.

Now, if The Manolo would point La BellaDonna towards an attractive, comfortable slipper to accompany said Dressing Gown, she would be most grateful.

It is quite clear that Manolo loves colorful and beautiful shoes for women. They're one of the great joys he gets in life. He's posted on this subject before. Women are allowed to get away with so much more as far as color and design go. Men, on the other hand, tend to look silly in colorful shoes. It's like they tell the world that the man has no real personality, and has only his silly green feaux ostrich boots to draw attention to himself. Unfortunately for him, it is the wrong kind of attention, and he ends up sacrificing respect.

ooh, i am approving very much of the monkstrap

i am also liking the name (especially the combination of the religious, brown habit-wearing celibate male with the length of leather)

sadly, though, the mr chick is suffering from the very narrow feet and cannot partake of this marvellous shoe type

O manolo

what is your opinion on the Chelsea boot for men? I like them as stealthily hip. Eschewing the gaudier or pointier (or, ugh square-toe) varieties.

"If it is your desire to look like the Argentine tango pimp then by all means wear the hip shoe. "

It is totally my desire for my husband to look like the Argentine Tango Pimp! That would be superfantastic! I must buy him the pointy toed, turquoise, ostrich skin loafer! (In all honesty he prefers the traditional elegant oxford or the basic Vans slip-on... but it would be SOOOOO hilarious to see him in the pimp shoe.)
