Manolo says, here is the beautiful, high-heeled peep toe from the Pollini with the crystals and the geometric cutouts. Not only is it most attractive, but it is on the sale, nearly 70% off of the usual price, the savings of almost $250 of the American dollars!

Gorgeous. Almost art-deco. And even with that treacherous heel they look like they’d somehow be comfortable.

    Dear Manolo:

These shoes are indeed beautiful. However, their precipitous heel makes me doubt they will make any woman happy on her feet, so to speak.

In general, you may know that constant use of high heels is likely to trigger spine and posture problems, not to mention constant foot ache. And for people with low or no arch, it’s a torture.

Perhaps the really, really well-made shoes (say Manolo Blahniks, though it is my misfortune not to be able to afford a pair) are indeed more comfortable. Still, it is my belief that high heels become inevitably painful after an hour or so of use (stand or walk in them).

My problem is that I LOVE high heels, but I no longer seem able to use them as I would like. I live in a walker’s city and walk between 2 to 5 miles daily. This feat is impossible to do in the elegant shoes you feature here. I bought last year a beautiful pair Dries van Noten with a comfortable 3 1/2 inch heel, but just going back and forth from home to a nearby cafe proved unbearable. I can tolerate chunky heels a little better, but not by far: A chunky 4 heel from Donald Pliner (snake skin) has suffered from a limited exposure because of a similar painful walk.

Perhaps these shoes are just for the socialite who scoots in and out of limos, has her picture taken at a VIP soiree, or ends up seated comfortably in the velvet cushions of the opera chairs?

Or perhaps I need to see an orthopedist and wear Danskos and Born now and forever? (Btw, I own a couple of cute Born shoes, and they are supremely comfortable). I have compromised lately by buying medium heels (2, 2 1/2 inches, with enough support for my high arches).

I guess it would be preposterous to ask the Manolo to walk, literally, in the women’s shoes he so ardently defends.

So, I would like to know your opinion about the perfect compromise: beautiful, elegant, AND comfortable, please! I know there’s Taryn Rose, but I only like a few of their shoes, plus they’re ridiculously expensive.

    Care to weigh in?

    Respectfully, your admirer,

    Fantasy Pieces

Why not walk about the city in your sneakers or walking sandals and carry a nice pair of heels in your bag for when you arrive?

(That reminds me of wearing my red, white and blue moon-boots to trudge through the snowdrifts between home and school, then pulling out my superfantastic Reebok originals once I was safely inside.)

Ya know, I think that there are just some shoes meant for sitting down and looking breathtaking; and then there are shoes meant for actual extended motility. These here are most likely more of the sittin’-down kind.

Maybe you could wear them with a really long dress. Make just enough casual, offhand comments about them that everyone in the room gets a good, long goggle. Then take ‘em off with a blissful “Whew!” and hope that there’s not a fire drill or anything.

(I’m just going to go ahead and beat the dead horse:)

My feet struggle with heels, too. I’m fairly young, but have problems w/neuromas and I don’t want to clunk around in orthopedic oxfords for the rest of my days. I’ve found that Naturalizer, Aerosoles and and Oh! shoes are generally blessedly comfortable, fairly attractive (though there are some definite slugs among the collections), and not too hard on the pocketbook. Also, Nine West has some beautifully-designed, well-built shoes that are not only lovely but reasonably priced. Couture they’re definitely not; but when it comes to comfort, sometimes that can be a good thing!

I had those shoes in the 80′s. from Charles Jourdan.

La BellaDonna, she hopes the superfantastic DMCollins actually meant to say, “Why not walk about the city in your ATTRACTIVE FLATS or walking sandals and carry a nice pair of heels in your bag for when you arrive?”

The sneakers, they do not ever belong with the garments with which one can wear the sophisticated high-heeled shoe.
