Actually, DSW carries mostly in season product. Their designer duds may be one or two season back, but most of their shoes are the same stuff you're going to find at department stores right now. They buy so much more product that the department stores do that they get it at a much cheaper price and are able to pass their discounts on to the customer. Also, they don't have 400% markups like department stores have. The best deals to be found are in their clearance racks.

The best shoes don't come in wide as a form of exclusivity. It increases the perceived value of the shoes. Surely you know that part of the reason fashion costs so much is because of its perceived value or the whole fashion thing.
In marketing, it increases the value of an object if it can only be had by a few.

I'd kill to have a DSW nearby. Almost. Discount shoe-shopping 'round here is a sad affair. So those of you in great urban areas complete with fantastic bargains and selection galore, take note: Next time you bemoan the lack of selection or quality of merchandise in your area, think of the poor, starving children in Utah who'd be happy to have that!

I have found many pairs of Anne Klein shoes @ TJMaxx-type stores around here, though, and they're always beautiful, joyously comfortable and incredibly well-made. My trophy: a pair of deep purple pointy pumps w/a small gold buckle for $1.99. (Of course, I bought them several years ago, before they were actually "in style." Takes about 3 years for things to catch up 'round here...)

^ Jerri- the DSW by me (st. louis mo) doesn't have near the selection of high end shoes as the first poster is describing

the last time I went, there was a stack of 3 season's old Prada and Miu Miu, but I really am not that big a fan- I much prefer the styles of Blahnik or choo-

However the off fith outlet did have a much wider selection- i didn't get anything, but I saw quite a few thigs I liked for reasonable(??)prices- (less than 200.00)

You've been mentioned over at Instapundit as possibly calling the Fashion Police instead of the regular ones for those who would show up to the State of the Union Address wearing a t-shirt with a message, noble or not!

Maybe Manolo knows the answer. Why don't the superfantastic shoes come in wide widths?

Can someone explain to me the DSW premise? I mean, I've studied economics, and I know if you can buy something that WAS $500 today for $50, there is a reason. Is this last-season's stuff? Unusual styles? Odd sizes? Or are you investing your time by popping in every two weeks and hoping for the best? That savings isn't coming for nothing.
