Manolo the Columnist
Manolo says, the Manolo’s most recent column for the Express of the Washington Post it is now available for the downloading. Today, it is the topic it is shoes for the ceremonies of spring.
0Dear Manolo,
Help me! In May I’m accompanying my boyfriend to the christening of his niece in Denver. This will be the first time I’ll be meeting his very Catholic, very conservative parents.
Shannon
Manolo says, the Manolo’s friend she is indeed most lucky to be able to visit the beautiful mountains of the Rockies in the springtime. Do not forget to pack the hiking boots so that if things with the family begin to go bad, there is the possibility of the long walk alone through the alpine flowers.
Ha! The Manolo he jokes.
Indeed the Manolo suspects that this family of the boyfriend they are the wonderful peoples, for in the fact, did they not raise the wonderful son? And if he is not the wonderful son, why is the Manolo’s friend going with him to Denver?
And so the Manolo he must now instruct the irreligious on the matter of the attire suitable for the springtime ceremonial events, such as the weddings, and the christenings, and the Easters, and the opening of the season of baseball.
Shoes for the ceremonies of spring should reflect not only the joyousness of the season and the event, but also must maintain the modesty proper to the setting. If the Manolo’s friend does this correctly she cannot but win the hearts of the family of her boyfriend.
Thus the Manolo recommends, the Tinkerbell from the Kate Spade as being suitable for the young woman who wishes to dress both modestly and prettily. The color it is the wonderful first-of-the-spring-robin-egg’s blue.

Maggie,
You must first understand why you choose this type. What is it about you that keeps you going down the same path? You must never compromise who you are for the sake of “being with someone”. Work on your sense of self and you will attract quality men who will value you. It won’t happen over night. But the wait will be worth it.

Sweet little shoes. What a breath of fresh air to gently remind people that it’s important to dress appropriately and modestly on certain occasions. Such a gentleman you are!

To quote my 3 year old “So pretty!”

Maggie, you must discover what it is about your shoes that attracts men to you who only want sex. Perhaps the boots of the lumberjack would be a better choice? Or the shoes of white, worn by the nurses?

That is indeed the pretty shoe, and the Annalucia commends the taste of the Manolo. And speaking as one who is herself “very Catholic, very conservative,” she begs the young lady not to be afraid but merely to use the common sense. The rules for dress in church are not as severe as they were when the Annalucia was a girl (in fact when she goes to Mass she regularly sees young women in clothes which make her feel faint) but for the young lady wishing to make a good impression she will suggest only two things:
1. The hemline should at least touch the knee.
2. No spaghetti straps or tank tops. A sleeveless dress will be all right as long as the neckline does not plunge overmuch; otherwise, one cannot go wrong with at least the short sleeve. The fluttery kind which one sees on the spring dresses is very attractive on the young women with the slender arms.
And now, dear Manolo, the Annalucia must take her leave, as it is now Lent and she is giving up the reading of the fashion blogs for the penitential season. She will miss the Manolo sorely, with his wit and wisdom, as well as such regular correspondents as LaBellaDonna and Furlagirl. But she wishes you all the most pleasant season and looks forward to seeing you all again at Easter.

Annalucia—talk about self-control! Why don’t you try giving up something easier, like food? Or breathing? ;)
*sigh* I love robin-egg blue. Always have. I just hate that everyone else loves it now, too.

The Tinkerbelles of the Kate Spade, they area truly inspirational! The slingbacks, they are a gift to the woman who wishes (or needs) to wear hose and yet participate in the fashion for the strappier shoe!
It is the opinion of the mountain-dwelling Gidget, however, that the Shannon should also bring with her a pair of the dress boots because the Spring it comes much later in the higher elevations. The Gidget must leave you now — not to go to the church, but to shovel the snow, while wearing her very practical waterproof boots of the Totes.

Wonderful shoes – and I’m beginning to think shoes are like cars – a style can look great in some colors but not others. This style also comes in brown or black – not special in either one. But the blue version is perfect.

I hate to be nit-picky, but Denver–my home–is actually on the plains. In May, you can be snowed on and sunburned in one day here. Shannon should bring some warm shoes and a coat with her for backup.

totally off topic, but I thought of you when my friend sent this picture today. What can be better than the naked Hasselhoff + puppies?
