Manolo says, if you are in the Manhattan, and if you have the opportunity you must do as the Manolo has done and stroll down the 7th Avenue to the showing of the magnificent couture of the mid-century French designer the Lucien Lelong at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

This museum show of the historical couture of beauty and refinement, it is the show which will both entertain and edify those who have the interest in such things.

Enjoy these additional posts from this week’s Carnivale of Couture, a spectrum of Hail to the Chief!  The amazingly smart and energetic Fashion Tribes EIC Lesley Scott shows us why her online magazine has its pulse on the many futu…

I’m glad the Manolo enjoyed our show and hope that he was able to get a catalogue. The Manolo might also like to know that there will be a lecture on Lelong’s wife Princess Natalie Paley and other fabulous clients like Lee Miller on March 31st.

    Cheers,

    Sonya
Co-curator of Modern Master: Lucien Lelong

  3. Lady Prisspott Says:

Sorry, I know this is your blog Manolo but Sonya, what time is the lecture? Her Ladyship will be in NY for Night of 1000 Gowns on the 31st and will of course be coming to the exhibit but I didn’t see mention fo the lecture on the FIT site.

  4. Sonya Says:

The lecture will be March 31st, 6-7;30 pm. You can call 212 217 7715 for more info and to register. The Official title is “The Lelong Women Who Made Fashion”

  5. La BellaDonna Says:

Hola to the Sonya, and how does one go about purchasing copies of the present exhibition, and any past exhibitions which may be available? La BellaDonna will not be in the position to go to New York to see the show, and searching the website using “store” “book” “bookstore” and “publication”, they none of them told La BellaDonna how (or even if) she could buy copies of catalogs. Many thanks!

  6. Sonya Says:

Bonjour La Bella Donna. The catalogue is self published and is free at the exhibition. If you want to email me at sonya_mooney at yahoo, I can mail you a few copies.

  7. Phyllis Says:

The bookstore at FIT is highly recommended - in addition to a comprehensive selection of garment industry textbooks and fashion history tomes, it’s the only bookstore I can think of that also sells Gutermann thread, interfacing and pattern paper!

  8. La BellaDonna Says:

Many thanks to the Sonya, and she will be hearing from me. Hola to the Phyllis, who has answered the other frustrating question; Yes, the FIT has the bookstore (which La BellaDonna was sure it must). Does the FIT Bookstore not have the website access? La BellaDonna, she was hoping to run amok with the card of the credit through the bookstore of the FIT.

  9. Phyllis Says:

La BellaDonna, I hope Sonya sees your post to either confirm or correct me, but I don’t think the FIT bookstore has a web site, which is a shame because it’s pretty unique and a hidden gem. I was there last spring and fully intend to stop by again the next time I’m in NYC. It’s really a must-visit bookstore for anyone seriously interested in fashion (shoes too!)

  10. Sonya Says:

No, the FIT bookstore doesn’t have a website, unfortunately. The Met has a great selection of fashion books, too and some of them are on the website. abebooks.com is also a great resource.
