Col. Blimp is <a href="http://www.chicagoboyz.net/archives/001368.html" rel="nofollow">my favorite movie</a>.

I too went on a Powell and Pressburger jag recently. They are as good as it gets.

My rundown:

Col. Blimp: A+ (see link)
I Know Where I'm Going: Solid B+ (Very good, but a shade less than their best)
A Canterbury Tale: A+ (A masterpiece; Watch for a piece of paper floating down --God's providential hand ...)
A Matter of Life and Death: A (Roger Livesay, David Niven ... a trial in Heaven; is love stronger than death?)
The Red Shoes: A+ (possibly better than Blimp, amazingly enough, a masterpiece, a work of art, a perfect movie. Moira Shearer is magnificent and Anton Walbrook is perfect)
Tales of Hoffman: B (brilliant, amazing to look at, but relentlessly weird and you have to really like opera and ballet)
49th Parallel: B (good period piece, many good cameo-like appearances)
One of Our Aircraft is Missing: B (Another nice period piece, but very dated)

"I Know Where I'm Going" is one of my favorite films. I love when Wendy Hiller and Roger Livesey escape certain death in a whirlpool with a motorboat!

I always enjoy visiting the Amazon.com on Tuesdays, after I've seen what The Manolo is watching, reading, etc. My recommendations from the Amazon are then skewed towards The Manolo's taste.

This week, though, I don't expect to see much change as the I Know Where I'm Going is already one of my favorite movies. I love the work of The Archers (Powell and Pressberger).

If The Manolo want to see what the Roger Livesey really looked like as an old man (as opposed to his theoretical old man in the Colonel Blimp) he should watch his as the Duke of St. Bungay in The Pallisers ( http://tinyurl.com/g7cey ).

If the Manolo has not read this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/031610969X/sr=1-1/qid=1145981244/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-2258368-1883826?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=books

he might wish to check it out. It is hilarious, well-written, and it all started with a blog:

Plus, the author is a childhood friend of my sister-in-law. :)
