A shoe fanatic who loves X??? I wish I'd run into you sooner. All my favorite pairs of shoes are literally falling apart but I can't find any replacements out there that like half as much. Every single time I see Exene I LOVE her chunky mary janes & all those funky styles she wears. So right off the top of your head, do any brands or websites come to mind? Because I've had very little online luck & there's definitely no stores in these here parts (Huntsville, AL). Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.

P.S. I don't spend $300 a pair on shoes so keep it affordable. If it's in you. Thanks.

And thank you, Lexington Green, for mentioning the Sword of Honor trilogy.

I thought I had read all of Waugh's work, but I hadn't heard of this. Thank goodness for "one click" purchasing from Amazon.com! I can't wait to get it.

Evelyn Waugh is the superfantastic! Was a brilliant book ever turned into a brilliant movie better than "Brideshead Revisited"?

But I do hope you're not listening and reading at the same time. My brain would be scrambled.

Oh- the Manolo, you are my hero. You have once again proven that your taste in music is as impeccable as your taste in shoes. For the X is the greatest L.A. punk band in history. Exene is the original punk princess, and John Doe is my secret husband, (D.J. Bonebrake and Billy Zoom ain't half bad either!)

My love for the Manolo increases - particularly with a throwback to my youthful (underage really) club going. Sigh...X, the Knitters, the Blasters....
And in response to the curious Andalucia, Ms. Cervenka is indeed the torchy singer, as well as the inspiring songwriter/poet, long before (and since) the Viggio Mortensen interlude. Please check out this album (and Under the Big Black Sun, Ain't Love Grand..etc.)

The Loved One! If there remained a shred of a doubt in my mind that the super fantastic Manolo is a man of the taste, it has indeed been erased!

PS - Manolo (and internet friends), I think you'd enjoy Steven Fry's "Bright Young Things". It's a bit of a mess, but lots of fun film of Waugh's "Vile Bodies".

First the films of the Archers, now Waugh.

Manolo, you are a man of impeccable taste, and not only in footwear.

Waugh -- ALL of it is good. Sword of Honor trilogy -- masterpiece. A flawed masterpiece, yes, OK, stipulated. But a masterpiece nonetheless. The Douglas Patey is the only biography of Waugh that actually understands him, BTW. You heard it here first.

I saw Mission of Burma open for X in I think 1982 -- Burma was better.
