Men: polo/golf shirt and either khaki trousers or shorts, often with socks and sandals. Women: trousers and sweaters, or capris and linen blouses.
These are the well-heeled types who come here for the wine and food, and also most of the middle-to-upper-class locals to be seen at church, in stores, and in restaurants. My parents dress this way, though my father never wears socks with sandals--in fact, he never wears sandals in public, period. I am disappointed with his current fixation on polo/golf shirts, though, since he has always boasted to me that in 1954, he owned every pattern of shirt that Pendleton made, as well as separate pairs of athletic shoes for basketball practices and basketball games (his mother thought this very frivolous), all bought with the money he earned himself. And now he almost never wears a button-down shirt.
