CBOT, thou misseth the point. Just ignore the ad, and look at the shoes. COncern oneself of the shoes. Contemplate the shoes, only the shoes.

Shoes. Ah, how I love shoes. Those days when one may feel fat, one merely need put on the adorable Charles Davids and one is transported to sylph-like beauty. All eyes are upon the delightful shoes. Those days when one's coworkers babble the insanity, one need merely gaze upon one's Ferragamos, and feel content, content as a Buddhist monk enshrined in his zenness of being. Those days when one is wearied by the fuss and terma..gantry of the world, one looks down at the spiffy Cole-Haan oxfords and then trots trippingly down the sidewalk, re-energized ant ready to rock.

Shoes. Tiny vessels of leather, miniature floors for one's feets, ready to take one anywhere and soothe the troubled soul with their sleekitude.

In her book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, Coulter criticized four 9/11 widows who pushed for the 9/11 Commission and have been critical of US security policies. Coulter wrote "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much." She also wrote "And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy. . ."

Ann Coulter does not simply have different views than I do. She is extremely offensive.

I'm with furlagirl.

I find it interesting that the longest thread I've seen running here in a while is the one politically charged one, if you can call it that, and its entire point is about how we don't want the blog to get political. A little ironic, hmm?

"AskMom, she has the strong political opinions and in other places online might even express them. But here, she is happy to be part of the group wishing only to discuss the elegant living and the beautiful shoes, surely two things which all civilized peoples can agree upon."

Hear, hear! One could replace "AskMom" with "Cat" in the above excerpt, and it would be equally accurate.

Okay, maybe the Cat will express just a bit of an opinion here to make a point: The Coulter, she disgusts me (as does the Michael Moore, for that matter). But, people, it's just an AD! A simple advertisement should not cause one to go into a tailspin. If you find the Coulter as distasteful as I do, then do not click on her ad and do not buy her book. Problem solved! Now, let's talk about the shoes and the fashion and the elegant living some more!

Hello

Would anyone like to have a discussion of the Iraq war, George Bush's presidency, Hillary's chances for the Democratic nomination, AIDS, global warming, the Arab Israeli conflict, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, the French presidency?

No, thought not. That's not why we come here. So let the Manolo get on with running his superlative blog in any way he thinks fit, because it's his, not ours, and if we don't like it we can always go off and set up our own, which I daresay is what HE did in the first place. The Manolo is what the Manolo is, and his political views are of no concern to me whatsoever. The person of the Manolo, as it manifests itself online is what we are here for, and the pleasure he brings us. Everything else is irrelevant.

One merely wishes to observe that if the Manolo truly wishes to absent himself from the politics, he might reconsider his membership in the regrettably partisan Pajamas Media. Who, it must be noted, are not in the business of buying ads from Michael Moore.

The political beliefs of the Manolo, whatever they might be, have nothing to do with the good humor and taste that bring me to your site. So even if the Manolo's advertising told me something about his beliefs -- and he assures us it tells us nothing -- I wouldn't care one way or the other.

But as far as I can tell, both Michael Moore and Ann Coulter preach their particular brands of political idiocy simply because they will find buyers for it, and in doing so encourage some of our less thoughtful and informed citizens to hold their thoughtless and ignorant beliefs with ever greater ferocity. Their cynical, humorless encouragement of the stupidly opinionated is hardly fabulous.

The Manolo is selling a moment of graciousness, and advertising hacks like these diminishes the product.
