RICE, that is rest, ice, compression, and exercise is the formulae used by jocks.
Well compression is out, but the shoe should not be strechy. Putting the feet in ice water helps to numb pain and encourages blood flow to reduce swelling. This can be alternated with an occasional soak in hot water with epsom salts disolved into it. The exercise and diet after the arival of the kidder well take scheduling because of the added work load but will help, especially with the stress reduction. I'm on my feet alot and sometimes the elastic support socks can help.

No, no, not the ugly shoes. The pregnant lady needs to feel beautiful and stylish.

Try these:

It may be that your shoe size/ankles will swell permanently, but this is no certainty. I have been a mother, several times over, for 14 years now and notice no difference. On the other hand, if I did, my position would be: Kids are worth it.

Enjoy that wonderful baby--

Let's see the average woman gains 10 permanent pounds after each child. I've got five children, God help me. The problem I've got isn't the shoes. It's that mirror and those ever tightening Blue Jeans.

LOL

Joan, my feet never stayed wide after three kids either, but I ended up with arthritis and one of the places it struck was my feet. My doctor said she was very sad to inform me I would need wide widths- but I quickly reassured her I would be fine. (It's nice to have a shoe-loving doctor who can sympathize).

I had narrow feet before, now they are a normal width. Whoo hoo! The shoe selection is MUCH greater for me now! So getting wide feet (by whatever means) can be a GOOD thing for some people.

The pregnancy-related growths of the feets, it does not have to be permanent... at least not all of it.

My shoe size stabilized finally at one-half size larger than my original pre-pregnancy size -- after 3 pregnancies and at least 3 different shoe sizes, and I have weighed less than my original pre-pregnancy weight for the last 5 years now.

It sucks wearing horrid shoes! I hope you have a DSW near you so you can buy something at least somewhat fantastic to tide you through. I am embarrassed now thinking about the cute loafers I wore through my last pregnancy, they were literally falling apart by the end of it -- but since I could not see my own feet, I didn't think too much about it! Funny, how you can be so distracted during pregnancy!

The Deja did experience the pregnancy-induced foot enlargment. The feets of the Deja, they went from the Narrow to the Wide. It was explained to the Deja that this is due to softening of bones and ligaments due to the hormonal changes. And even though the weight of the Deja is now below the pre-pregnancy weight, alas the feets remain of the Wide width.

I agree with LizaBet- the key to fitting back into your prepregnancy shoes is the key to fitting back into everything else! There isn't any biological reason why one's feet would be permanently bigger, except the fact that, on average, women permanently gain 10 lbs after each pregnancy.

Not that ANY of Manolo's acolytes are average, however ;-)
