The first book looks very interesting. Not that I enjoy disease, but I do love history.
I recommend The Bounty by Caroline Alexander. It’s an look at the distortion of (at first) the court martial proceedings and (later) public record and history by the rich and powerful families of the mutineers. Sorry, fans of Fletcher Christian et al…
Caroline also wrote The Endurance, which is probably the best coverage of Shackleton’s best-known polar expedition, complete with incredible B&W photographs by Hurley (the regretably few surviving glass plates).
Caroline’s histories are meticulously researched and well-organized but never dry.
There is no finer view in Malibu than that from the patio at Geoffrey’s. It’s sublime. And the food is totally edible. So glad you are enjoying a good meal! Hopefully your car was intact when you retrieved it.
Now dreaming of tuna tartare with the avocado and the most perfect touch of sesame oil.
The menu from Geoffrey’s looks appealing, but $11 for a glass of Kenwood merlot is highway robbery, plain and simple. Kenwood is *such* an overrated winery…
But, I fully acknowledge that a superb ocean view can really make up for a less-than-superb wine list… :D
Dear Manolo, how’s your screenplay coming along?
Seriously, honey pie, we’re all anticipating a script or a book from you. Topic of your choice! We’d all love it, whatever it is.
Dear Manolo. You have managed to make me homesick once again. Tuna Tartare. . . yum.
$18 pour une salade? I should hope that the view of the ocean and of the beautiful people is beyond reproach…
O Manolo! The Plague as a summer read? Eke! At least you’re balancing it out with “Scorched” and Geoffrey’s.
Ah, yes, summer. The beach, the sun, the surf, and a book about the Black Death. Nothing like a little romance….
Once again The Manolo, he astounds The Zarba with his breadth of interests.
If you love shoes like I do you certainly have great shoe stories to tell. You can leave them on Bata shoes forum. They are preparing a book about their shoe saga. Who knows, your story might be picked up for eternity !!
