I would bet that this is a dance costume and the music was "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy"; the song is from a play and was sung by a jockey (played by George M. Cohan). My daughter wore something similar when she was 8 (at her insistence) which looked adorable because she was 8. This does not look adorable. These pants are an abomination and the jacket fabric and design are terrible, and none of it belongs on an adult.

The dress of The Kayne can be seen in that same Yahoo photo set (click on the picture, duh!). The order gets shuffled around a bit as new pictures are added, but currently the dress is in pic #25 and # 54.

Miss USA definitely wore Kayne's dress and it actually looked really great, I thought. But the judges didn't agree--she came in 4th runner up.

Could these pants be any less flattering? And is it just me, or does the front of them remind anyone else of the old Sansabelt men's pants?

Something that baffles me about all these pictures: why are the women so plain? They're supposed to be the most beautiful women on the planet (or, I suppose, in the Universe, implausible as this sounds) right? Now I personally KNOW prettier Japanese women and prettier Americans, although the French candidate looked--inasmuch as one could see her face--closer to beautiful than not. I mean, you can click over to The Sartorialist and see prettier girls every day of the week. These Miss Whoever candidates all seem to be Miss Non-threatening Average In Too Much Make-Up.

While I think these contests are pretty silly, and I don't like the idea of judging women by their looks, which are a genetic lottery, rather than by their style (it's too much like judging cattle, as if you're just looking for a nice sample of the breed)...well, if you are going to judge women by their looks, at least find a few who look less like second-runner-up for Homecoming Queen.

Boys and Girls, let's think about it. Miss Tara is from Kentucky, Russell Springs, Kentucky, that is. It's definitely in the middle of no where, and I'm not even sure there's a Wal-Mart close by for Tara to glean her wardrobe. (And now we know why she said she liked Vincent's dress....everything is relative).
