The Flashman is indeed the very definition of the superfantastic. And the boots were hawt back then, too. I gave my father all the books, and he left them to me when he died, so they're sort of an heirloom. Am going through them one by one. The Hitchens also enjoys the Flashman, but whether that is a plus or a minus I am too discreet to say.

Ah, Lavapiés -- the castizo neighborhood where I spent many happy Madrid years... And it's just about the right time of year for the Fiestas de San Lorenzo, too. Makes a girl want to put on polka dots, tie a scarf on her head, and stick a carnation into her center part.

Mil gracias por compartir, querido Manolo. Te veré en la calle Argumosa.

The Manolo, obviously one of the literary taste and discretion, may also find The Flash read on CD. Said CD's very much entertained moi and mon Flash-addicted husband on long vacation drive last summer.

I love Flashy! Fraser's other novels are very amusing as well, and if you are a fan of Alexandre Dumas, you cannot go wrong with the film made from Fraser's screenplay of The Three Musketeers (it's the good one -- with Michael York as D'Artagnan and Oliver Reed as Athos). The man knows adventure!

The Sir Harry Flashman, he is most super fantastic indeed! If you are to read them all in short order, I would recommend reading them in chronological order and not in the order written (you will find them listed that way at the beginning of some of the books). You will be damning the eyes of your least favorite Project Runway contestant in no time.

My father and brother discovered Flashman while grouse hunting many years ago. My father's loader passed one on to him.

They have read all of them, and then read all of them again. At Christmas they handed several over to my husband. And then I got ahold of them.

Flashman is a rogue of the worst kind and I love him. Hooray Manolo for sharing this with your readers!

Lavapiés? Footwashing?
