Project Runway 3, Reunion Show
Manolo says, zzzzzzzzzz. Eh? Oh.
Many apologies. The Manolo had dozed off for the moment, so lulled was he by the tedium of this penultimate episode of the Project Runway 3.
Here is what the Manolo remembers of the show before soft-eyed Hypnos arrived to carry off the Manolo:
1. Tim Gunn, the academic dean at the institution of higher eduation, has the large vocabulary! Three dollar words! Like the “caucus” or the “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”!
Of the course, such facility with language is to be ridiculed by the television viewers, especially by those who can only repeatedly describe bad things as “serious ugly”, or who cluck and cackle in their own private bird languages.
2. The extremely handsomey, Jude-Lawish Keith is as unrepentant and as ego-maniacal as ever, and thus it is indeed the shame that he was kicked off of the show, as undoubtedly he would have given us many hours of guilty pleasure hating him. Him so bad.
3. Vincent is as crazy as the barrel of the rabid fruit bats, and only half as nice to the little peoples.
4. After reviewing the passive-aggressive behavior of the Angela’s mother, the Manolo has more sympathy for the Jeffery, who is still the twit but not as evil as first supposed.
5. Finally, and most revealingly, all it takes is the five-second clip of the Jay McCarroll to realize that he is still the best, smartest, and funniest contestant ever on the Project Runway.
The Jay recognized exactly what the Manolo said about the Michael many weeks ago, that being the outsider from the hinterlands is the advantage in this contest. It is socially difficult to be the fashion designer in the places outside of the New York or the Los Angeles, and such social difficulty encourages the development of the strong individual and sometimes eccentric vision. While, the New York and the Los Angeles can potentially homogenize those who are there for too long.
The Manolo adores the Jay and hopes that he will soon achieve that which he is capable of achieving.
And now, it is on to the final episode!

Manolo, any thoughts on how the designers are dressed this season compared to the previous seasons? Laura in particular? I’m loving her dripping in diamonds look.
Yes, but would it kill her to condition her hair? Riding pants and boots instead of jeans?! Aaayyyyeeee, such is the pretension.
Manolo, I agree about Jeffery. Angela’s mom was passive-agressive, and Jeffery, rude as he may have been, seemed like he was trying to restrain himself.
BTW, I just found your blog last month and I love it. My boyfriend laughs and says you made me buy 2 new pairs of shoes. Thank god, ’cause it was time. Who knew this Kentucky boy would like a shoe blog so much?
I did enjoy Keith’s appearance more than I expected to – There wasn’t a rule against the books. I was set up, someone planted those books on me. I left the set because everyone was mean to me.
How I love the Michael and his new braces. And how I hated Angela’s mom. Just stop crying you big whiny baby. Poor Jeffery, I think he did an admirable job of restraining himself towards her and Angela. And I never want to hear the drama-mama Vincent say anything about ‘getting off’ again. It makes the fabulous fatfashionista cover her ears and yell, ‘la la la la’.
It’s amazing how a little editing can change your opinion of someone from one episode to the next. I think we all left feeling that way and we have to give the editors credit to make us think one way and then another with the very same incident. Maybe Jeffery won and they’re trying to “humanize” him now.
I also snoozed….turned it off about 20 minutes before the end, dull! Dull! Dull!
I’ve always been of the opinion that Angela’s mom was the real jerk in that situation — though, of course, Jeffrey could have handled it better. I think the editing the first time around was intended to make Jeffrey’s behavior look more unreasonable than it really was — even Tim Gunn on his blog at the time seemed to side with Jeffrey.
In a polite society, the Angela’s mom, passive agressive or not, would command respect because of her age. If some young snothead talked to my mom that way, I’d kick his sequined, stuffed codpiece with my sharpest 6″ stiletto heel.
I would have beat Jefrey’s ass had he spoke to my mother that way. People please remember that Tim Gunn walked up to her and asked her her thoughts on the garment and she answered.
Passive aggressive or not he did not have to speak to her that way—and to top it off asshole Jeffrey said (in the episode after the Mom challenge) he said that was the worst thing he ever made in his life!
He himself said that the outfit was horrible!
I am not an Angela fan—I just think Jeffrey is a complete ass all the day long.
Bottom-line–A good designer does not have to speak to a client that way– even in a competition.
I have carefully reviewed the Jeffrey. I conclude stunningly that he said what he said. Editing-schmediting. Perhaps the worst of his excesses are excentuated, but they are still heiniously-him.
Often in the reality show, the contestant stays by acting outlandishly, and later, does the damage control U-Turn with the perfunctory “softer-side”. To his credit jeff remined true to his inner asshole.
Am I that strange that I enjoyed this episode, even though there was so little of the Bradley?
I’m glad you appreciate Jay as much as I do. That’s at least 2 votes for him vs. all the people who do not get his humor. He nailed each contestant concisely and chose Bradley as the most interesting; me too (that is, I chose Bradley also). And it was a veeeery boring reunion.
finally, someone who notices the passive aggressive hideousness of the Angela’s mother. what the baby she is.
Ugh, Bradley and the super-annoying mouth noises! I had a coworker that did the exact same noises ALL DAY LONG. (Except that he had about 20 more than Bradley did.) It was so excruciating, that I finally had to ask my boss to let me work from home full-time so I could get away from it.
It was good to see Malan again – I kind of wish he had been on the show longer, he seems like an interesting person, and has such a great sinister villain laugh. I was happy to hear that he is doing pretty well for himself, and even showed at Fashion Week!? How great is that, considering that the WINNER of Season One, our beloved Jay, hasn’t even done that yet! Dammit Jay, get your shit together and start making some clothes – we want to buy them!
While the show was yawn inducingly boring, I found that the cavalcade of Kayne was highly amusing. Plus, it was a blessing to have Robert back, I missed him. I wish he had his own talk show where he had a tidy little hour-a-week of snarkiness.
Although, I must say I was a little shocked that Tim Gunn uses big words. I’ve always understood him perfectly… amazing what a college education will do for your vocabulary. Though I did mis-hear faux bois as foie gras. Ooops…
Jay did show at Fashion Week, and his collection was quite good. I hope someone picks it up.
I miss the Kayne greatly. He was so gracious yet hilarious. If I had the fancy phone I would have voted him fan favorite about 50 times.
I completely agree with the Manolo about the Jay. He is still the finest winner, and I truly hope that success comes to him.
Oh, my bad. I didn’t see anything about it.
I used to work with Jeffery. I can tell you that he is an outstanding individual and artist. I want to address the newest scandal to arise on the latest episode, about him not sewing his own collection. He got his start HAND-SEWING deconstructed leather jackets. Leather is his best medium. OF COURSE the leather aspects of his collection are the strong-points. I really really hope they don’t disallow him to show at Bryant Park. That would make me so angry.
I am sure these accusations are false.
The way the show ended and from what I can find searching the web, it looks like they did kick jeffery off…
I think I may not even watch the last episode if it is jefferyless…
While I am not president of his fanclub, I do appreciate his designs and I think he is very gifted… I doubt he cheated… most former addicts I know exhibit that same very high level of fortitude and perseverance.
Laura is probably my least favorite character on the show so far.
This is difficult because she clearly has some amazing attributes as a designer and person… However,
she seems to enjoy stress and conflict. Since she has nothing interesting or comedic to offer, she’s decided to take the elitist route and down everyone else… Meanwhile, anything special about her designs or talent is stained by her negativity and the lack of class she’s shown her “competitors.”
I think Angela’s mother should have remained quiet and allowed Jeffrey the respect he deserves as an artist. Why should her opionion, on his idea of the perfect garment for her, be more important than the his own, especially in a competition. She should have been a “model” and nothing more. Strike a pose, be supportive and take your turn in the light, but please keep your comments positive. (Kayne and Michael were the most fun to watch because they concentrated on the clothes, not the drama). Jay’s still a favorite. More clothes, less drama.
OMG im so mad! im really pissed about jeffrey, they always take away the people i love. Jeffrey made the show cooler this season by having something different. im pretty sure that everyone else just thinks he is a treat to them not winning. I personaly think we should all egg lauras house.
Michael never said an unkind word about anybody, he’s about the most well-bred of the contestants. All that b*tchiness gets boooring. Funny stuff: Michael once said his dress was so sexy good it even made a white woman have a smokin’ ass, and once he said he was as nervous as a whore in church, yet he never really offended any one contestant. Vincent is a superioristic loony tune, and his poor choice of terms of excitement are indicative of his mental instability; but hey…who says you have to be mentally stable to design a dress? Laura is as catty as they get, she should’ve shut her red belipsticked foie gras hole and realized that the real prize after Olympus was all of the biz to come, in which she and all of the 4 could’ve shared. I hope she and her plunging V-neck open-heart-surgery prep gowns are banned by the industry for dousing Jeffrey’s fire. As a woman with actual boobs, I couldn’t dream of wearing one of those things anyway.
Poor Jeffrey, but he will be big despite her latent nastiness and will one day trounce them all because right is might. Go Rock Star!!!
I have to agree that I’m soooo bored of the bitchiness on television and will be pleased to see Michael win, my blood pressure raises when I see people treat each other in such cruel, insulting disrespecting ways. With the way this world is today, if I were the host on any of these shows, I would personnally throw them off and tell them to learn some respect! Laura is so immature…shouldn’t she be a little more mature with all those little boys she raising…SET THE EXAMPLE GIRL..GEEZ! Can I tell you how much I love Tim?? He’s a nice guy too! I never want to see another picture or rerun with Angela and her whiney ass mother, my god, has anyone ever seen “The Whiners” on Saturday Night live back in the day, I mean she’s a dead ringer for one of the characters! Well gotta go, the Finale is on!!
