Manolo the Columnist

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

I must attend a vintage automobile show in Hershey, PA, this weekend. Apparently, it rains every year, and much of the show takes place in muddy fields. What is a girl to do?

Katiana

Manolo says, ayyyy! Antique automobiles in the muddy field in the mythical place of inexpensive chocolate!

This, it sounds to the Manolo like the beginning of the newly-discovered Roald Dahl book, in which the poor, but clever child is subjected to the various plot-driven tortures involving the evil aunties and their cocoa-powered 1937 Packard Super Eight.

However, most amazingly of all, this place Hershey, it really and truly exists; the marvelous land of mud and chocolate where apparently even the most super fantastic peoples are up to their knees in one thing or the other.

And so the Manolo would recommend to his friend this beautiful pink rubber boot from the Pucci, as being suitable for wearing to the muddy car show, and for afterwards wading in the open-air syrup ponds that ring the caramel meadows for which that portion of Pennsylvania is so rightly famous.

Remember, as the Manolo always says, Pucci makes the smiles!

And in Hershey, the streetlights are shaped like Hershey’s Kisses…

Rather fromage-y, but brings a smile nonetheless.

    Must. Have. Those. Boots.

  5. pbird October 6, 2006 at 7:24 pm #

    Rather limited size range, no?

The Fashion Outlaw, she was up late last night blogging, and happened to link to these exact boots in her post! Such a happy coincidence! The Fashion Outlaw also does not mind the limited size range because she happens to have the tiny feet (size 5.5, which so many manufacturers don’t bother making anymore). Pucci does indeed make the smiles!

Am I the only one who’s not a big fan of these boots?

I like the Royal Horticultural Society Wellingtons in the rose print (unfortunately, they do not come in my size). I’m sure they’re available many places, but I’ve seen them at the Victorian Trading Company:

Somebody needs to talk to these shoe manufacturers about sizes. People’s feets are getting larger! I am perilously sick of not being able to buy anything amazing because I have large feet.

    Dear Manolo,
I have just discovered the Manolo and the peerless pensees (sic) of the Manolo fill me with delight! I, too, love the shoes, expecially the Minnetonka deerskin mocassins! I hope this affinity will not preclude our friendship. I say the Manolo is super fantastic, and I thrive on the joy of such a sharing!
    Ciao & Party on, Manolo!

The Mandolina, she clearly does not live in the area where the torrential downpours ruin your day and the flooding on the sidewalks ruins the chances of dry feets on the way to class.
The Unfashionista cannot bring herself to spend so much on such pretty shoes, and has a pair of boots in the black with the white polka dots, purchased for under 30 of the American dollars, which also, as the Manolo says, bring the smiles.
Happy boots, they make these rainy days seem nice.

    These > Uggs

I have a pair myself in brown w/ pink lining/piping[?] but not prints. They’re a godsend for people who have to deal with rainy season on a large university campus.

These are darling, but looking outside I see the rain has indeed thickened up a bit. Would Manolo like to post a story on lovely snowboots in the (very) near future?

No, Mandolina, you are not the only one. Cute for my 6-year-old, but not for me.

[...] The Manolo he is as amusant as ever, yet I have to admit my blood gets uncomfortable at the idea of spending $153 on (what we call in England) wellingtons (after the duke of). This is because I am mean thrifty. And because I am thrifty I think the time has come to make this blog over into a newer differenter blog about thriftiness, which is basically at the of my homemaking style. On the other hand, I also love thrifty fashion. And Mexican folk art, which isn’t necessarily thrifty, but worth it anyway (click the photo to go to somewhere you can buy it). When these dilemmas have been resolved, you will be the first to know. [...]
