Manolo says, here you see the pair of the purplish suede Mary Jane pumps from the Sigerson Morrison that the Manolo thinks are quite smart.
Like many of the shoes of the Sigerson Morrison it is subtle. It does not over the head hit you with the sparkly psuedo-glamour, but in the stead persuades you slowly of its playful and intelligent sophistication.

Dearest Manolo–
Please define for me what makes these pumps Mary Janes? I have never before seen the Mary Janes with the pointy toes or the high heels. Is it that their name is “Mary Jane”, perhaps? I am greatly puzzled.

Originally, a Mary Jane was a child’s shoe with a closed toe and an instep strap. The style was named after a character created by the Buster Brown shoe company. (”Buster Browns” were also a type of shoe–a lace-up oxford worn by girls and boys.) Today a Mary Jane is any shoe–flat, heeled, pointy, round-toed–that meets those criteria. Believe it or not, there’s a “Mary Jane” entry in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jane_(shoe)

“Mary janes can have varying heel heights and come in a variety of styles, but what makes them mary janes is the strap that crosses the middle top of the foot”

Oh, why oh why oh why did the desertwind sell her vintage 1914 deep-chocolate brown dress and coat? These shoes are lovely.
(before she moved to the little house in the desert she was ruthless in the closets — and made a little money. What a fool.)

Oooh, those are fantastic–just what I covet this fall. Sadly, they are also WAY beyond my price range. Do you know of anything similar for max $120? I know that is a huge request, but really that is even a stretch on the budget. What’s a working class girl to do?
