What the Manolo Is…

Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is…

Reading…

Listening to…

Watching…

Yesterday evening, depsite himself, the Manolo watched several episodes of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team. Frankly, the Manolo could not tear himself away. It was like the train wreck, terrible and compelling at the same time.

In many respects this show it had the similar dynamic to the great ballet movies of the past: beautiful young womens being tormented and driven hard by bitterish, domineeering, slightly-past-their-prime hags.

But instead of the stern Russian Madame ballet mistress, it is the pair of the hard-faced former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders who run things.

And the final product of all of the effort and the trauma and the tears was not the supreme work of balletic art, but the group of 36 scantily-clad hotties who can shake their badonkadonks to the tune of “Redneck Woman” while thousands of slavering yokels shout encouragement.

Don’t forget the etiquette lessons!

Undoubtedly, this show could provide material for several good dissertations.

Manolo, I too have been caught in the DCC spiderweb. I can’t tear myself away. There is only one more episode left (thankfully- it’s 2 hours long.)

Shamefully, I even went out to the DCC website to try to figure out who “didn’t make the cut.” What is it about this show????

I found myself drawn into the “reality show vortex” with “So You Think You Can Dance”. Addictive.

However, the Zarba’s Queen, she has decreed that The Zarba, he cannot spend an hour a week drooling over scantily clad young hotties. She declares is “unseemly” for A Man Of A Cartain Age With A Daughter.

Oh Man, I’ve caught myself watching this while flipping the channels. It is like your remote freezes on that channel, forcing you to look.

The Twistygirl has not until this moment even admitted this to her best of friends, but she too has not only watched the DCC extravaganza, because Twistygirl has Direct TV with the NFL channel, she watched last season’s Making the DCC, as well as the Making the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, Making the San Diego Cheerleaders, and Making the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders. Twistygirl now only admits this because, as she always says, if it’s good enough for the Manolo, it is surely good enough for the Twistygirl. Also, the Twistygirl was for a brief moment a cheerleader in high school, but quickly defected to the majorette squad, because in the Twistygirl’s high school, that’s what all the “hot chicks” did. The Miami Dolphins series was the best, but there is nothing like seeing a bunch of Texas Hootchie Mama Hooters waitresses giving their all to fulfill their lifelong dream. And as we all know, crack is not good for you, but it is most pleasureable.

I too, am totally addicted to the DCC show! When the poor Mystic Pizza Julia Roberts girl had to give her book report on Jackie O? Priceless. It’s filling a void that Project Runway has left, as they don’t have to fake the drama at DCC either. And there are shows for a whole bunch of NFL teams? Why are they only on football channels?

    Manolo! DCC? You scamp.

The Nancy Lancaster book sounds lovely and really fun.

You may want to check out “Five Sisters — the Langhornes of Virginia”. It’s a fantastic story. (Nancy’s mother was the eldest of the sisters.) Unfortunately, although the author (son of another sister) had access to great source material, the book isn’t very well written. I’d recommend you go for a used copy.

you decry “beautiful young womens being tormented and driven hard by bitterish, domineeering, slightly-past-their-prime hags.”

well, as one of those afore-said hags, what the fuck do you think we ought to do with our talents instead? and can you blame us for being bitter, if you consider us in those terms?

    Twistygirl - Ha!
“And as we all know, crack is not good for you, but it is most pleasureable.”
Brilliant comment - crack (in its many forms) is also terribly, terribly addictive.

    Robyn.

Yes indeed, there were shows for the Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers squads. Notice that they chose to film only warm weather cities to maximize the skimpy-outfit aspect. I am not sure why those were only shown on the NFL channel, perhaps a contractual issue, but I am sure the reason CMT picked up the DCC tryout series is that nothing says Country like the big-haired, dimwitted Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Oh! Madama Butterfly is divine. I just saw the Boston Lyric Opera’s production of it last week.
