Ah, the novels of the Mark Helprin! Most excellent, but very dangerous to those who have business to attend to. So very often the Annalucia has walked upstairs to make the bed or put the laundry away, has picked up ``A Soldier of the Great War'' or ``Memoir from Antproof Case'' from the bookshelf...purely to flip through it, of course, just for a few moments...and forty-five minutes later the bed is not made and the Annalucia is so engrossed in the book that not even the trumpet of the Last Judgment would catch her attention. So the Manolo has many hours of Helprin-reading to look forward to.

I really enjoyed Freddy and Frederika and was lucky enough to hear Mark Helperin discuss the book. He's a brilliant man who has led a life that's more interesting than that of many of his characters. Now you should move on to Winter's Tale, which is truly his masterpiece. But it will probably take a winter to read it - it's massive. And if you liked the movie version of Children of Men you should read the book by P.D. James. It's even better (and a bit different) than the movie. But Clive Owen rocks.

sarah is happy that the manolo is telling people about 'children of men,' which she's seen twice, and which is a truly excellent film. the manolo's wide influence should encourage more people to see it, and that is good.
