As if fashion could save Britney at this point. Over at MSNBC, they’re reporting rumors that she’s pregnant again.

Manolo- I must say, I stumbled across your blog recently and I’m hooked. Shoes are my addiction, a problem since I’m in college and I can’t afford them. Anyways, what do you think of the Coach denim ballet flats? I love them and wish I could afford them, but are they stylish or cheesy?

    Dear Manolo,

I just purchased the new coach patent leather wedge espidrilles. Now. here is the question. What kind of bag do I wear with them? Do I have to go matchy matchy?

I really cannot see Britney in the VIKA dress. Not even for a minute. She is into her baby production, evidently, & will make a big comeback after they can walk or drive, maybe, which could be simultaneously.

Hola to the Tara! La BellaDonna would not presume to know the mind of the Manolo, but La BellaDonna, she has the denim ballet flats her very own self – although of a humbler lineage than Coach. Much, much humbler. Yet they are pretty, they are comfortable, they do not pretend to be other than they are. For the right woman, she can indulge in a denim Audrey Hepburn moment, with the fitted denim capris and the flats, or, perhaps (like La BellaDonna), a Kim Novack moment, with the pretty, flattering sundress, for which the denim ballet flat is a charming accompaniment. Eyelet, organdy, denim in different colours, chambray, gingham (in different sizes), madras – these, offhand, are a few of the fabrics which will work well with the denim ballet flat.

Hola to the Barbie! Although La BellaDonna is not immune to the appeal of the Perfectly Matched Handbag and Shoes, she must report to the Barbie that everything La BellaDonna has heard from the numerous experts, professional or otherwise, says it is absolutely not necessary. It is not the thing necessary to have the shoe [patent and straw? La BellaDonna cannot access the espadrille at the moment] and the bag patent-and-straw the same-leather-and-straw, for the example. An attractive, and perhaps more useful combination, it would be that the bag, it would be all patent; that way, as the leather is neutral, it may be used in the winter as well. Conversely, the bag, it may be made entirely of the material/straw used in the shoes. Or the bag could be, not the same precise weave and material (for there are the many, many different weaves and weights of the straw), but the same colour straw as that of the espadrille. Or the bag could be leather, but the same colour as the straw of the shoe, and not the patent of the shoe. Or the bag could be made of the straw, but matching the patent of the shoe. So, the possibilities could look like this:

Supposing a black patent espadrille with cream straw (it is a mix of fabrics, yes?); you could have:
    a black patent bag
a black bag, a combination of patent and plain leather
a cream straw bag trimmed in black patent
a black straw bag trimmed in cream patent
    a cream-and-black straw bag
    a cream leather bag
    a cream straw bag
    a black straw bag
a black patent crocadile-stamped bag (that is, the Mockadile, the canny chameleon leather)
a cream straw bag trimmed in black patent mockadile
(note: cream patent leather all on its own, it sometimes looks a little odd to La BellaDonna, so she does not list it here as a bag suggestion, unless it appears as the cream patent leather mockadile – the change in texture helps it look less odd)
a black straw bag trimmed in cream patent mockadile

Or, if the rest of your outfit, it is all keyed into the cream and black theme – you could have the bag an entirely different colour – the burgundy, the bittersweet, the unexpected flash of colour. La BellaDonna, she suggests that the hardware, if visible, should be the same – silver on the shoes, silver on the bag; gold on the shoes, gold on the bag. It is the less discordant, and it makes it appear as if the bag you are wearing with the shoes, it was out of deliberate choice, and not because you left the keys in them last night. (She urges this regardless if you wear a bag which is in the same colour family, or the unexpected-punch-of-colour family.)

Geesh. okie. I think I got it. I do like the color of the straw combo. But I have seen it (in the coach catalouge) with a black leather bag with a white piping that looked just right with it. Thank you BellaDonna. The Barbi is pleased
