Sometimes many of this things can be over the top - but they are over the top in a tasteful manner (unlike the frightening elephant dress found over at Spirit Fingers' blog).

And, as I strive to make many tasteful pieces of the gothic nature myself, I feel quite a kinship with Galliano. I absolutely adore his work, even when it's a miss.

The words that kept forming in my mind when I saw both of those collections were "fun" and "exquisite". I especially liked this one. It's almost wearable!

Well, predictably, I am in love with the boots. The collection was amazing, like he'd been hanging out with Edward Gorey & Tim Burton & Agatha Christie. Genius is the word. How about that long embroidered jacket? Wow. &, of course, the personal Wellies & a sun-yellow silk kimono. I've been there, too. :) He's outrageous & wonderful. This world definitely needs more fun.

I love Galliano's latest pret a porter collection, but his last couture show was the one that really blew me away:

Does anyone do the blend of workmanship, showmanship, and beauty better than Galliano these days?

Those shoes do not look unwearable to me. In fact, I have a pair of Via Spiga knifes that look exactly like them and I wear them all the time.

Very much agree. I like that he looks to be having a great deal of fun, the sewing is detailed and interesting. He makes me feel as if I like sewing again. Also, so much variety in the show.

Love the green tights. Oh would I love to wear green tights. Also love the shoes.

Wow. I love the coats, the 20's- and 30's-inspired dresses, and as the Manolo said, the sense of whimsy (though not the zombie makeup on the models--why do they have to look like they've just been exhumed?).

I also love the multicolored tights, tights being the only thing that I would or could actually wear out of all that, but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try wearing blue or green ribbed tights with a yellow frock, especially as I don't have a whole team to make sure the ribbing on my tights is straight!

Indeed, he is one of very few designers who succesfully take artistic risks.

His most recent couture collection was so stunning it nearly made me cry.
