One of my dear-departed Mum's claims to fame is that she actually has a Queen Mum story. During WWII, my mother was a visiting nurse-midwife in Glasgow and was called out to do a delivery. Because Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mum) was touring, to do "the queen's wave" and make the locals feel a little bit better about being bombed into the ground (sorry, we are anti-monarchists at our house), the police had the streets blocked off so that the queen could drive slowly by in her Daimler (yep - I'll repeat that...a Daimler..not a British-made car). Well, my mother had business to attend to and was dressed in her nurse's uniform and veil and so when the policeman stopped her, right in front of the queen's car and told her she had to just stand there, she told him to bugger off as she was on "official business", gave the queen a little dip and sailed on with her medical bag et al. She also told me that it was very well known at that time that Queen Elizabeth kept multiple pairs of "court shoes" in the back seat of her car and would change them on a moment's notice. She was known as a real shoe lover and very fashionable person at the time.

Of course its the Queen Mother. The idea that it could even possibly be Diana or even Fergie is hilarious. Those photos were taken long ago and are of a short little lady's feet. The idea that it could have been Jackie Onassis leaves me speechless.

Marilyn Monroe emphatically did not die before platforms were popular; platforms were huge in the 1940's (think Rita Hayworth). That being said, platforms were not exactly at their zenith during hers.

I'm not sure who's wearing the shoes, but I think the British Royal Family Member guesses are likely candidates!

God - I wish it was J Edgar - you should get a prize for that answer.

These photos all seem matronly and unfortunately not regal. However, I think it is QE2, it's the cankles..

I'm getting the British vibe, too. Hard to believe the same worman wore shoes so dowdy and so cool. (Love those platforms.)

Not Fergie or Diana, i think. Both had/have shapelier legs. Not QE2. Not in those fab platforms --- unless when she was younger???

It could be Wallis... but I'm going with QE2, back in the day.
