Young Folks
Manolo says, here is the example of the song that is amusing and catchy and perfectly wonderful in the original version, but which has been reinterpreted into something that is honest and profound and perfectly wonderful in the entirely new version.
The result is that the Manolo cannot decide which he likes better. But, does it really matter? They are both wonderful!
P.S. From the Manolo’s internet friends at the Brothers Judd.

The original is sweet because the duet is expressing the typical youth sentiments of judging of the mature elders while at the same time finding in themselves the beginning of the more mature sentiments of love.
In the new version, the duet between the youthful woman and mature man turns the song into an intergenerational love story, no?

Reminds me of Johnny Cash recording Trent Reznor’s Hurt.

Watched the two– both are delightful, aren’t they? The animated version reminded me of textbook illustrations from the days when I was a young teenager, so the sweet appeal of the faces–hard to describe, & the disappearing after the party, very poignant, today, especially. The bluegrass version & the melding of ages, acceptance–the combination is rather profound in the midst of tragedy as we are now–is that why I have a strong urge to go watch the Ferris Bueller dvd now? Maybe later. Thanks, Manolo! Danke schoen!

Where can we download the second version? I have a weakness for remakes of pop songs done in a bluegrass-way. ;)

Lovely song. Never heard it before. Both versions are splendid; the somewhat contrasting videos remind us that love is ageless, and warms our hearts. Thank you, Manolo, for reminding us that although these days are darkened by events, it is still springtime.

Aaack, Courtney, I see that the Karl loves Ratatat, too, one of my favorites.

I’m a sucker for a banjo. The first one didn’t impress me much, but I love the second one.
