Actually, I believe the shading, when used in a kimono, is called ‘bokashi’-style dyeing. It is a traditional method, now seen mostly in kimono linings. The method is particularly elegant in this suit.

Another thing: gray, when worn in a kimono, is a color particularly reserved for older women. So not only is she inherently graceful and elegant to Western eyes, she’s also dressed ‘right’ according to traditional color rules in Japan (and believe me, there are many of those rules).

I noticed the sleeve “reference” as well, but you have a keen eye to notice the shading as a nod to the obi. She does seem kind and elegant…as well as warm and friendly. I wish those things went together more often.

I like the the royal family takes their job seriously and how the entire culture values fashion as well - from the elegant to the boundry-pushing “Japanese Schoolgirl” groups.

It is a tasteful and lovely outfit, to be sure.

What size is the Wynne? La BellaDonna, she has a virtually identical outfit in the toast-coloured silk; the cape sleeves, they are lined in a black and yellow tartan taffeta. Sadly, La BellaDonna, she is no longer the size 2; is the Wynne perhaps able to wear it?
