Lol, how come? Or did you enjoy “Memoirs of a Gheisa” so much? Must agree, some fiiine costumes.

  2. Meander Says:

Because she’s an incredibly elegant lady. You gotta serve somebody.

  3. Andy Shoes Says:

Wonderful! She’s made a reference to the traditional kimono sleeves, while the shading at the waist reminds you of where the obi would be, yet the entire impression is modern and elegant.

And you know the entire ensemble is of the finest Japanese silk. Yum!

  4. Kristen@ThePurseBuzz Says:

Where can i sign up to be the empress of Japan?

For a second I did a double take because I thought that was the Queen of England!

  5. Christina Says:

I did too, Kristen and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

  6. Elizabeth Says:

Eeek gads! that woman oozes class and elegance!

  7. me Says:

Is it wrong to call an Empress cute? She’s looks like someone’s cute grandmother.

  8. Bree Says:

Wow. That is one handsome and regal woman!

  9. la petite chou chou Says:

AWW! I think she is absolutely adorable! Look at the expression on her face…she looks so kind.

  10. themusicvids.com Says:

In the end I think she is the way more elegant than Queen Elizabeth. Isn’t she?

    eat your heart out, liz!!

  12. joel griffith Says:

She is the Vanessa Redgrave to Elizabeth’s Lynn…

  13. Chris Says:

The Manolo is not a monarchist?!

  14. Wynne Says:

I would KILL for that suit. It has to be one of the most elegant things I’ve ever seen. It would be perfect for the Derby this weekend

    What an elegant woman!

  16. memomachine Says:

    Hmmmm.

I wonder if the members of any other government than Japan continue to wear coats with tails?

    It’s an odd anachronism.

  17. La BellaDonna Says:

It is a tasteful and lovely outfit, to be sure.

What size is the Wynne? La BellaDonna, she has a virtually identical outfit in the toast-coloured silk; the cape sleeves, they are lined in a black and yellow tartan taffeta. Sadly, La BellaDonna, she is no longer the size 2; is the Wynne perhaps able to wear it?

  18. Wynne Says:

La Bell Donna, the Wynne is actually still a size two. Why don’t you drop me an email.

  19. Poochie Says:

    Andy
I noticed the sleeve “reference” as well, but you have a keen eye to notice the shading as a nod to the obi. She does seem kind and elegant…as well as warm and friendly. I wish those things went together more often.

I like the the royal family takes their job seriously and how the entire culture values fashion as well - from the elegant to the boundry-pushing “Japanese Schoolgirl” groups.

  20. Wynne Says:

    LaBellaDonna,
My great apologies, apparently the email has decided to act the ugly. Until the super fantastic husband/computer guru has time to fix it. Please email me at mwynnefuller@aol.com.
    You are indeed super fantastic
The Wynne says, Having your email broken it is the horrors!

Actually, I believe the shading, when used in a kimono, is called ‘bokashi’-style dyeing. It is a traditional method, now seen mostly in kimono linings. The method is particularly elegant in this suit.

Another thing: gray, when worn in a kimono, is a color particularly reserved for older women. So not only is she inherently graceful and elegant to Western eyes, she’s also dressed ‘right’ according to traditional color rules in Japan (and believe me, there are many of those rules).

hey hey hey. my boyfriend was lucky to serve her. she is a true LADY to all, even their staff!
    Gotta love her!
