Whose Shoes…The Answer!

Manolo asked, whose shoes?

Manolo answers, the Catherine Deneuve!

She is shown here with her daughter Chiara Mastroianni and the author Marjane Satrapi, yesterday at Cannes.

Congratulations to the the Manolo’s super fantastic internet friend the Super* who was one of only two peoples to correctly know who this was, the other being the Kym.

And here is the Catherine Deneuve at Cannes today, wearing the pelt of the gigantic saber-toothed leopard.

Don’t Hassle the Hoff Week!

Manolo says, finally! The holiday the Manolo can celebrate with complete abandon!

Don’t Hassel the Hoff Week!

As with every holiday, there is a beginning, an end, and various traditions to abide by. DHH week will hoffcover.jpgkick off this coming week, partially celebrating the release of David Hasselhoff’s autobiography “Don’t Hassel The Hoff”, and will be in effect for 7 days afterwards. You are urged to participate, mostly due to peer-pressure. If you have a website and will be celebrating this glorious holiday, we implore you to send us a link to a page on your site demonstrating your practice of the DHH week holiday traditions, so that we may proudly list you on our participants list. Participants are hereby known as Hoffsters, who will practice, to the best of their ability, the 10 Traditional Mandates.

Here is one of the Manolo’s personal favorites:

3. If you possess Hasselhoff merchandise, please wear it loud and wear it proud.

Whose Shoes…The Hint

Manolo says, this week’s whose shoes has again proven to be very difficult, so the Manolo will now provide the hint.

Here is the very recent photo of the featured celebrity. She is on the left. Her daughter is on the right. The person in the middle is not related, but of moderate fame.

Build the Outfit, Update

Manolo says, the Manolo reminds his internet friends that the latest iteration of the Build the Outfit contest is taking place in the Manolo’s Super Fantastic Forums. This is the difficult challange to build the budget outfit to go with the luxurious shoes. Of the course, the prize, the $100 gift certificate from the Zappos is not inconsiderable.

Go now and participate. It is fun!

The Shoe Shrine

The Shoe Trees of Imelda Marcos

Manolo says, not surprisingly, among the biggest tourist attractions in Manila are the shoes of the Imelda Marcos.

London has the crown jewels, Paris has the Mona Lisa and Manila has Imelda Marcos’ shoe collection.

In a city little known for tourist attractions, the Marikina City Footwear Museum is a bright spot, annually attracting thousands of visitors curious to see the treasure trove of shoes amassed by the Philippines’ shopaholic former first lady.

“Remove Imelda’s shoes and this museum would be nothing,” said tourism officer Mario Villanueva. “Curiosity about Imelda’s shoes does not wane.”

Lined up in glass display cases, the collection of 758 pairs includes black leather boots, silk brocade stilletos and leather slingbacks by local designers as well as world-famous names such as Chanel, Charles Jourdan, Bally and Bruno Magli.

Interesting enough, although, the best details from the whole article are at the very end…

Once feared, the 77-year old widow, who returned to the Philippines in 1991, is viewed by many Filipinos as an eccentric figure of fun.

Imelda opened the museum in Marikina, the home of the Philippine shoe industry in the east of Metro Manila, in 2001.

[...]

A spokeswoman for Imelda said her current shoe collection runs to around 5,000 pairs, most of which were presents from admirers.

5,000 pairs!

Imelda Marcos still has 5,000 pairs of the shoes!

Who could not admire this woman’s incorrigible determination to acquire the beautiful feetwear?

Manolo asks, whose shoes?

Forbidden!

Manolo says, apparently not all of the problems caused by the Manolo’s weekend change of the servers have gone away.

If have you tried to access the Manolo’s website, but have received the message that said you were “Forbidden”, do not despair.

You are perhaps using the Firefox or the Mozilla web browser. You must open the “Preferences” page and clear the cache, quit your browser and restart it and the Manolo’s blog should thereafter appear.

Yes, it may seem silly that the Manolo is giving the instructions on how to access his apparently hidden webpage from the text on his webpage, but this information is directed at the Manolo’s internet friends who may only be able to see his blog via the feeds, such as the Bloglines.

Manolo says, here is the perfect shoe for wearing while dreaming about riding around in the Flueguar, it is called the Hepburn and it is fresh and funky without crossing line into the land of the unwearable art shoe.

Manolo says, here are the few links which may perhaps amuse…

The Flueguar

Manolo says, from the Manolo’s internet friend the Triticale, comes this…

flueguar.jpg

The picture of the John Fluevog’s sweet, sweet whip.

Here is the description from the Fluevog website..

T’S A BIRD! IT’S A PLANE! IT’S A DRAWING ROOM ON WHEELS! Well, she was a rusted-out hulk, ready for the scrapyard. Somehow, the Jaguar MK 10 that Sigurd Fluevog bought, back in 1965, had fallen into such egregious disrepair that any sensible person would write her off, without a second thought. But true Car Guys, like John and his late Dad, have a special kind of X-Ray vision that enables them to see the glory within (it works on people, too). Faced with the choice to scrap the classic or bring her back to life, John of course took the Fluevog route and committed to fully restoring this lost beauty, better than new. In the process, he couldn’t resist getting out his sketchbook and ended up completely redesigning the car, inside and out. The frame was rebuilt; a V-8 engine was installed; the interior was transformed, the roof was lowered (think about that for a second: he chopped a classic Jaguar!). Two years and a whole lot of body work later, the world has one of the most original Fluevogs ever to strike the street (watch your local motorways – this automotive angel could descend upon a thoroughfare near you). You can’t miss it – she’s the car with the stitching on the side and Mister Vog behind the wheel. The one that almost looks like it could have come out of a Fluevog bag. All this is a very simple key to understanding John’s mind: when he’s drawing a shoe, he’s thinking about a car; when he’s drawing a car, he’s thinking about a shoe. It’s the Fluevog Continuum.

You must go to the wonderful-crazy Fluevog site and see the other pictures.
