Of course it could be something Baroque, but usually mezzos simply played men and this character is clearly supposed to be a boy. Or I could be completely wrong and it's something like Un Ballo in Maschera. My gut says Hoffmann. It's a really cool show, but directors get carried away with the possibilities. (Of course, I am of the opinion that opera directors are hired more as someone to create a cohesive design plan rather than dramatic interpretation. Someday, this will change.)
