One of my all time favorite books. I've recommended it to many people and have loaned it to several but I always insist on getting it back, since I love it so much. And of course, I love 101 Dalmations too!

The Manolo made my heart skip a beat. I fell deeply in love with I Capture the Castle when I was 12 years old (a long time ago!) and read it so many times I know every line of dialogue. It's the book that made me want to go to England. And keep a journal. Which I do, to this day. Thank you, Manolo, for loving the Mortmains too.

So interesting to remember that "I Capture the Castle" shares author with "101 Dalmatians." The Dodie Smith understands conveying character via style.

I Capture the Castle is one of my favourite books. I particularly like the portrait of a blocked James Joyce type. Interesting too the glimpse at stylish women in London in the 30s, all in black.
