What the Manolo Is…

Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is…

Reading…

Listening to…

Watching…

“But, Manolo,” asked the friend of the Manolo, “you do not seem like the sort of person who would enjoy this giant, stupid,Transformers robot-fighting movie.”

“Yes, it is true,” answered the Manolo, “the Manolo is not the intended audience. But…there it is. He saw it. He went at the behest of some twelve-year-old friends of his, who assured him that this movie ‘rocked’.”

“So, did you at least enjoy this movie?”

“Yes. Very much so. It was loud and dumb, and more than moderately ridiculous, and yet for all of that, if one could disengage the thinking parts, it was also rousing and funny and entertaining, in its lowest common denominator way.”

“Would you say it ‘rocked’?”

“Yes, ‘rocked’. That is the best description. But then, the Manolo expected this , as he learned long ago to trust the opinions of the twelve-year old boys and girls. Thirteen-year olds, no. They are untrustworthy. But the twelve-year-olds, they know and will tell you truthfully.”

The manolo is correct in his assessment of the movie.

I also liked the ‘teenage styles’ that the characters wore in the movie.

    You have 12-year-old friends?

  5. La Nina Says:

Oh,Manolo you are so right! It is far too hot where I live,so the thinking parts do not work well anyway-but this film, was definitely rocking.

Are not the children of your friends also your friends? This is how it is in the Manolo’s world.

  7. la petite chou chou Says:

Good point. Luckily for me at this point, none of my friends have children…

I do love me some White Stripes. Especially when I try to think what Simon Cowell might say if Jack White auditioned for American Idol.

Everyone should have a few preteen friends. They’re smarter then you (and they) think, and you can buy candy and ice cream and eat like a 12 year old when you’re with them

I have a boy who was twelve five years ago and a daughter who will be twelve five years from now. We all went to see”‘Transformers” and we all agreed that it “rocked”. The teenager, however, thought the interruptions to the the action by the teenage romance in the story wholy unmerited, boring and gratuitous. The 7-year old teenager thought it was one of the film’s redeeming qualities. The other one was the little girl enquiring whether Optimum Plus was the tooth-fairy!

I am intrigued by Manolo’s distinction between 12- and 13- years old. What transpires between the age of twelve and the age of thirteen to render the young teenagers “untrustworthy”?

  11. Ann Says:

Im my experience (2 girls and 2 boys) thirteen is when they realize that it is not cool to like mom and/or any other adults. Maybe something about being an official “teen.”

Although I am sure that the super fantastic Manolo’s charm works on all ages!

  12. dangster Says:

Ah I suppose that would be true, Manolo. Except that I am 23 and none of my friends have children :)
