Please don't look too surprised if you reach my podunk part of the Bay, Silicon Valley (it's only podunk b/c of the prevalence of flip flops and generally hideous shoe choices) - people in the city always dress better. Oh well, at least our weather is fantastic whereas SF weather is a tid bit nippy. It's the only cool temperate climate where I can find women wearing peacoats in the middle of July on a regular basis. Welcome to the bay. I expect that you will be spending most of your time in the city (as well you should), but if you manage to squeeze in a side trip to the East Bay, I can make a few suggestions for you: Jade Villa, in Oakland's Chinatown, is known for having some of the area's best dim sum, and the endemic nuttiness of Berkeley is always worth a peek. If you feel like taking a walk in the woods, I would recommend Tilden Park, in the Berkeley hills, for its accessible trails, lovely scenery and its very own carousel. Enjoy your trip!
