Manolo asks, whose shoes?

  1. Annalucia Says:

Is is the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy?

  2. K Says:

Umm….Eleanor Roosevelt? I have no idea.

  3. linda grant Says:

    Eleanor Roosevelt

  4. angelhair Says:

Why, the Wicked Witch of the East (or is it West) just before the house fell on her. I think those ankles are too slim for Eleanor Roosevelt.

  5. Ebba Says:

Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor ?

  6. La BellaDonna Says:

    Margaret Sanger?

  7. Talmida Says:

    Coco Chanel?

  8. Bee Says:

    Totally Coco Chanel

  9. marybennet Says:

I’m voting for Coco Chanel, too. And is it wrong of me to say that I love them? I like an old-fashioned superfantastic girl.

  10. Annalucia Says:

Oh, the Annalucia loves them too - especially the second and third pictures in the top row.

But would the Coco ever wear the shoes shown in the bottom row, second picture? The sneakers and the floral hem suggest the elderly grandmother at a summer picnic. And the third photo in the second row - sneakers on skinny bare legs - no, that cannot be Coco. On the other hand the Hyannisport Kennedys are famously sporty and athletic, which is why the Annalucia guesses it is Mama Rose.

  11. Cristina Says:

I’m going to go out on a crazy limb and say Grace Kelly.

  12. Isay Says:

    Claudette Colbert?

  13. Linda F Says:

    Katherine Hepburn…..

  14. DivaLisa Says:

I submit my guess: Bette Davis

  15. DivaLisa Says:

I hope two guesses is not considered cheating: second guess: Vivien Leigh

  16. linda grant Says:

It might be worth mentioning that judging by the skirt lengths most of these pictures appear to have been taken between WWI and the 1930s

  17. Pencils Says:

    The Queen Mother?

  18. Amy Says:

    I’m thinking Wallis Simpson

  19. Hester Says:

Ms. Wallis, I believe. In addition to being tall, I think Eleanor had largish feet. Also, I can’t imagine her being seen in a long flowered calico looking skirt, ever.

  20. Tracy Says:

Some of the shoes look to be from the teens. If they weren’t so… sensible I’d say Mary Pickford or Lillian Gish, but I’m going with Eleanor Roosevelt too.

  21. Minky Says:

    Gloria Swanson.

We didn’t need dialogue. We had feets!

  22. Handmaiden Says:

My first thought was the Queen Mother.

  23. La BellaDonna Says:

La BellaDonna, although still leaning toward St. Margaret Sanger, is willing to support those who opted for the Queen Mother. The shoes, they have that “between the Wars” look. And although La BellaDonna is not especially interested in the Keds (good shoes in their own way), she would be first in line to buy the others.

Designers, hear my cry! Give us shoes like these, and not your silly sports memorabilia shoes!! They are not the too high, they are not the too flat, they are shoes for the lifetime!

  24. Wren Says:

Oh Manolo you like to keep us on our toes. I don’t have a clue on this one. I’m thinking an actress, based on the informal “feet tucked under body” pose. The Queen Mother or Royalty would never do that.

But the long long skirt - she looks like a suffragette…

And the satin dress with matching shoes - she was a fashion icon in her hey-day…

And the sensible white lace-ups with floral skirt - she lived to a ripe old age…

Oh please put us out of our misery!

  25. Elaine Says:

    How about Helen Keller?

  26. Amanda Says:

Gotta be Eleanor Roosevelt… gotta be

  27. Laura Says:

    Are they Eleanor Roosevelt’s shoes?

  28. Annalucia Says:

“Designers, hear my cry! Give us shoes like these, and not your silly sports memorabilia shoes!! ”

Yes! Yes! One thousand times, the yes!

And when they come available the Annalucia will buy the two pair from the first row, two pair from the second - that is, the first and the fourth - and even the pair in the last picture of all, though she will probably wear those with the dressy trousers.

  29. Kerri Says:

    Eleanor Roosevelt

  30. roz Says:

    Queen Elizabeth?

  31. cori Says:

    Maybe Clara Bow? :)

  32. Danielle Says:

My first reaction was Coco Chanel, too.

  33. Phyllis Says:

    Coco for sure

  34. Beatrix Says:

Eleanor Roosevelt. What pretty ankles she had.

  35. Shazza Says:

    I’m thinking the Queen Mum

  36. la petite chou chou Says:

    ….out on a limb here…Judy Garland?

  37. la petite chou chou Says:

Nope….It’s not Judy Garland…but I know who it is now…
