I don’t get it! Did she forget to pack any other shoes? Does she have a bunion that’s only accomodated by those particular shoes? Is she just messing with our heads?
I think she’s just messing with our heads.

Some people think clothes make the fashion statement, I personally believe that your clothes are the canvas and the accessories you choose are the fine brush strokes that make the actual statement. Although they may be comfortable, wearing the shoes over and over again with everything and anything portrays a singular lack of effort and interest in one’s appearance that I personally find reprehensible in someone with her position.

Umm…isn’t she also wearing the same necklace? I’m starting to think she was robbed and left with only one pair of shoes and one piece of jewelry. Either that, or she’s gettin’ a little lazy as the years go by.

Maybe she lost a bet?

“Although they may be comfortable, wearing the shoes over and over again with everything and anything portrays a singular lack of effort and interest in one’s appearance that I personally find reprehensible in someone with her position.”
Personally, I think it’s cool, as well as being a sly way of positioning herself above her cohort. She’s saying, “those who are not confident in their fashion credibility try to cover up their insecurities by never being photographed in the same outfit twice. I have no need for those silly games.”
I won’t defend the hair, though.

I actually have a few comments:
1) While the shoes may be comfortable, they kinda don’t really even go with what she is wearing…and not in a good “I’m wearing something dowdy but I will dress it up with these fabu shoes that are a totally different color” way.
2) As previously mentioned, isn’t she supposed to be setting the bar to a certain extent?
3) I want to shake her by her tiny shoulders and shout toward her giant head “ENOUGH ANNA! MOVE ON!”

What I want to know is: Are they the same pair day after day or does she have boxes and boxes of the same shoe?
And my hair would look like hers if I could grow more than a few hundred strands, so on behalf of bangs + bobs everywhere: lay off the hair! It’s a classic, dammit!

I like her hair; I’ve worn mine that way a few times. It is severe, and your hairdresser goes nuts when you want that cut, because it’s very difficult to do it well, believe it or not.
The shoes? meh. I see that the baby toe is still trying to make its getaway though.
September 13th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
yeah because no one is allowed to have a favorite pair of shoes.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
Do we have pinky toe escapage here too?
Anna Wintour has a “look” just as she should. It would be more ridiculous and if she were always changing her look to be up with the latest trends, which might not flatter her.
However, those particular shoes look orthopedic.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
And still, the the pinky trying furtively to get away…
September 13th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
All I’m saying is that she could at least have a pair in black to go with her BLACK AND WHITE DRESS.
Honestly.
September 13th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Classic, shmassic, when it goes on for this long it’s nothing but an affectation. She can wear nothing but those shoes for the rest of her life, if she will only cut. Her. Hair. Please, Anna, I’m begging you. CUT YOUR HAIR!!!
September 13th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
She dresses like my grandmother, which is cool for my grandmother, but terrible for someone who is ostensibly an arbiter of fashion.
September 13th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
I like the classy hair and the shoes. What kind are they? I want some.

CyndiF - I hear what you’re saying, but with all due respect, the all purpose “tan” sandal may work for the blue haired matron taking the Perillo Bus tour of Europe using only one suitcase, but for a grande dame of the fashion world it simply says lazy.

Am I the only one who wonders whether Anna was attending the Donna KarAn show? Who is this similarly-named designer with whom I am not familiar? I find it impossible that the Manolo could have made the typo…
September 13th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
ACK! Oh, wait…it’s just Anna Wintour. For a second I thought a MUTANT had crept up on me. Just look at that second picture. She looks like an alien.
The shoes are not even cute. Yes, we are allowed to have our favorite pair of shoes but this woman has access to every shoe ever made…why put on the ugliest, most bland pair you can find every day….especially when you KNOW your picture is gonna get taken.
September 13th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Anna’s shoes are Manolo Blahnik Callamu, in beige alligator. I suspect those go for four figures. With pastels or neutrals, they look fine. With darker things, she needs to go to dark brown, black or navy. Then again, I’m sort of an old fogie about those sorts of things.
September 13th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
ok, so the shoes are a bit boring for someone of her “position” (maybe she’s turning into a “fuddy duddy” in her old age)… what bugs me is the lack of lipstick… Does the woman not own a tube??? She would look terrif with a soft red, especially with the neutral clothes… Come on, Anna, live a little, add a little color to your life!
Course, only someone who grew up with a mom who wouldn’t go out of the house without a full face of makeup on, would notice….
September 13th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Myabe they’re glued to her feet and she can’t take them off!
September 13th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
I cannot believe AW and I have something in common (and frankly, it’s not something I have ever sought), but I, too, have the errant pinkie toe. It pokes out of sandals no matter what I do and wears a patch on regular shoes. My mother spent my babyhood mashing that toe down, but to no avail. If I ever commit murder, I will have to do so in shoes (shoes I don’t like, of course, so I can burn them afterwards), because if I did it barefoot, my four-toed footprint would lead the police right to me.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
I’m thinking the Red Shoes here a la Moira Shearer… The shoes can only be removed by the feets being cut off or being run over by a train…
September 13th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
… but the hair is gutsy… you have to color frequently with that part down the middle!
September 13th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Next April fool’s Manolo can do Who’s shoes Wednesday with Ms. Wintour, but all the same shoe!
September 13th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
Thanks for the information on the Manolo Blahnik “Callamu”, Old Fogie. As for being an Old Fogie, this Southern “girl”–using the term loosely — hasn’t been seen in white shoes since Sept.3 even though it has been in the 90s most of the time. Just can’t do it… Sorry Manolo!
