Between the third and fourth floors, the woman behind me said she was highly impressed with my stair-climbing-in-heels skills--and I told her the real problem was going down. To which she, quite sensibly, replied, "Well, take the elevator." Topic? Any flats I try on look way too twee on me. I'm sure some can pull them off, but I am not among that number. While flats may be OK, they don't do anything -for- the leg (at least not so far as I can tell), whereas a good pair of heels can make an entire look (physically and sartorially). Not to mention the joy that comes from strutting around in a fabulous pair, or the looks of appreciation when you sprint up 3 flights of stairs in stilletos. Also, I've found that many of the flats these days have very little support for the wide or flat feet, which can make them just as uncomfortable as heels for some.
