And, the thing is, these miracle shoes don't have to be comfort shoes, which almost by definition are ugly. Frequently, comfort shoes don't take orthotics, because they've added cushioning to the arch, which makes it impossible to get the orthotics in.

The company that figures out how to make an attractive woman's shoe that can be worn with orthotics is going to make zillions of dollars. I will buy out their entire factory. Please, Manolo, use your powers to will such a thing into existence.

It is nice to know that efforts for social good are being made here. I do not have wide feet but feel for those who do, and obviously this columnist does too. Bravo Manolo, bravo.

I actually have the opposite problem, long and pointy feet (alas, my feet and figure conform to 15th century beauty ideals, not the current ones). But New Balance makes my sneakers as well- they are good for all the non traditional sizes!

I also have very wide feet and have difficulty finding shoes that fit. I have had good luck with a company called Hitchcock Shoes that specializes in wide shoes for men. Their only store is in Massachusetts but they have a good web site (hitchcockshoes.com) and I have had good service from them.

What about orthotic-friendly shoes, with no heels, for a 25-year old fashionista-wannabe that are cheap... and will go good with cocktail outfits?
