I'm in North San Diego County, and it's eerie outside. If you step outside my front door, the only thing you can smell is smoke. Ash is coming down like snow flurries. I'm about 25 miles from the nearest fire--the one in San Marcos, and am sitting at home, glued to the news and the Internets, waiting.

For what, I don't know.

I'm so sad for the people who are losing everything.

Meander, I support you in ignoring Glenn Beck, who is a rancid blight upon the face of journalism.

Had to acknowledge the picture of Pepperdine - I went through Malibu Firestorm 1993 whilst studying there, and it was NOT good times!

Blessings on Glinda, Eilish's friend, and the many people who are suffering through this fire. And blessings on the people fighting it.

Eilish, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's property and dairy herd, I could not imagine losing my livelihood in such a manner.

And thank you to those that sent your positive thoughts, we are out of danger for the forseeable future.

And, glad that the threatened summer home of the Manolo was also spared.

But, so many were not. Bless the firefighters indeed, and please keep those positive thoughts coming, they are sorely needed as Southern California is not out of danger yet.

We live in the Inland Valley, east of Los Angeles and Orange County, but the wind and static in the air is so bad here that a local dairy farm's hay barn caught fire and burned the whole dairy to the ground along with a fertilizer plant that was next to it. Prayers please for a friend of a friend who lived on the dairy and lost her house along with all her family's dairy herd as well. The fire moved so fast that they could not get the animals to safety. Luckily, no people were hurt, but they have lost almost everything.

The wind just seems ominous now. It is hard to sleep at night.

Bless you, Manolo and Glinda and all our family, friends and neighbors in Southern California.

The Santa Ana winds are strange and frightening enough even without the terrible fires.

Out here in Joshua Tree (Mojave Desert) we always worry about wildfires, but our dangerous season is during Summer electrical storms. (Something non-Californians may not know is that the Santa Ana's come from the direction of the desert, but heat up as they push west across the mountains and passes. Right now, we're 30 degrees cooler than the coast.

Be careful, Glinda.

I'm in West L.A. and well out of the fire areas, though we're seeing smoke from the Malibu fire, and it's very bad out there, with no end in sight. There are nearly 20 active fires right now, in seven counties, driven by fierce Santa Ana winds.

Please keep in your thoughts the courageous firefighters who are working around the clock right now, as well as those who have lost their homes.

I was going to link to something awful that CNN's Glenn Beck said about the fires, but I think that I'll pass on that and just give best wishes to all affected.
