Shoes of the Future = Backward Heels!
Manolo says, here is the short and amusing newsreel from the 1930s, in which the unnamed “fashion designers” predict what the women of the future, in the year 2000, will be wearing.
About one minute into the film you notice the appearance of our old friends, the ubiquitous shoes of the future, here called the “Cantilever Heel”, but known to the connoisseurs as the “backward heel”, the staple of 1950’s science fiction, and more recently Marc Jacobs and Junko Shimada.
P.S. Many thanks to the Manolo’s internet friend Lesle for spotting this.

This is was the best. Thanks. I love the fashion film reels and I have a 70s version of the backward/cantilever/floating heel:

What’s funny is how right some of these ideas were, perhaps not in the exact executions shown, but in the concepts themselves. We do have garments with zip-off sleeves and pant legs, but they’re strictly limited to outdoorsy stuff (at least I hope so.) The one that really got me laughing was the man’s outfit, though, that showed him with the phone and the radio, etc. Doesn’t Dockers (or someone) make pants with special cargo pockets for all a guy’s electronics?
There’s nothing new under the sun.

Hehe “Oooh swish!” indeed. And the designer who had the audacity to say that skirts might disappear entirely… shocking.
Did anyone else notice that the men had all the uncomfortable parts of their fashion removed (collars, ties) and had practical additions (phone, pockets) while the women were still trussed, behatted and completely useless for anything other than standing there?
Granted, the women didn’t look as ridiculous as he did. But still.

You can own them if you hurry!
I too laughed at “Oooh, swish!” I think I’m going to start saying that.
But the pockets with “candies for cuties” were a little cree-py!

Man oh Manischewitz, did they ever nail it with the phone! And I rather liked the wedding dress, except for the halo-effect headpiece.
