Manolo for the Home

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Manolo says, The Manolo now wishes to introduce to you the latest addition to the Manolo’s network of blogs,

Manolo for the Home!!!

As the subtitle says, it provides “house, home, and lifestyle advice from Manolo the Shoeblogger,” although, as you will see when you visit, it is actually the redoubtable Never teh Bride who is providing the most sensible and super fantastic of advices. (The Manolo is merely riding shotgun, pointing to things on the big map and kibitzing, much in the way one imagines Martha Stewart guides her media empire, only nicer.)

So, you must now go read this new blog, as undoubtedly you will find much here that is of interest to you.

Manolo the Columnist

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

I am 13 and I have a boot crisis. I want to wear boots to middle school, but I don’t have much money to spend, just $60 or $70. I like tall boots, preferably in a brown or hazel-ish color and with flat heels.

Sophie

Manolo says, the Manolo commends his young friend on her fashion sense and her desire to look stylish while she suffers the multifold emotional travails of middle school.

However, as always, the Manolo must note that it is exceedingly difficult to find decent boots for less than $150 of the American dollars.

Yes, there are many so-called boots available in the lowest price ranges, but these are dreadful things you would not wish upon your worst “frenemy” , seeing as they are most often fabricated from the toxic plastics recycled from the lead-filled toys recalled to China.

But, the Manolo understands what it is like to be poor, so poor that you must make your own boots out of buffalo hides you have softened by chewing, Comanche-style.

And so the Manolo would recommend the Gambit, the attractive tall suede boot from Penny Loves Kenny. Yes, it is $40 more than your budget, but trust the Manolo, you cannot find better for less.

Outfit Factory

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Manolo says, if you love the Manolo’s Build the Outfit contest, and are good at building the stylish outfits, you will undoubtedly go nuts over the Outfit Factory the new contest being promoted by the Manolo’s internet friend Lesley at the Fashion Tribes blog.

The best part of this is that there are some serious prizes– $7,000 worth– being given away to the winners.

So, after honing your skills here in the Manolo’s minor leagues, it is time to move up to the big show and try your game against the best.

Project Runway 4, Episode Five

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Manolo says, finally, with this episode, the old make-it-work spirit of Project Runway has returned, and the value is again placed on creativity and not the commercial prospects of the outfits.

This challenge, to take the big lady clothes from the former big ladies and make them into something new and beautiful, was ingenious, especially as it forced the designers out of their comfort zones, and into the world of real peoples.

From the beginning it was good. Witness the moment when the models were paired with the designers. As the choices were made, some of the designers (Elisa in particular) seemed truly happy to meet the model, while others (Jillian, Christian, Victorya) could only manage the most forced of smiles. Such marvelous suffering on the faces of such shallow peoples!

And then it was good bye to the Jack. Yes, the Manolo often found you annoying, but he was still sorry to see you leave in this manner, and he wishes you well. You should be given the chance to come back in the next season, Daniel Franco style.
