Because my GF is an avowed shoe hater (she swore she would only wear sandals and slip-on comfy shoes), it was with great trepidation that for xmas I bought her the La Canadienne Jenny (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/30657668/c/72.html) with the hope of helping her see the light that are super fantastic shoes.

When she opened the box, the look on her face said "oh bother". But, she tried them on and grudgingly admitted they were stylish and comfortable. She then wore them to work and received many compliments. They grew on her so quickly that when she left for a trip to Amsterdam only a week later, they were one of only 2 pair of shoes she took with her (wearing the boots, packing the shoes in her luggage). Since her return, she now wears them several times a week.

So, I consider my efforts a success. :-)

I adore my La Canadienne ankle boots, which are very similar to these:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/29185506/c/5852.html

(I don't think they're exactly the same, but if I were replacing my boots those are the ones I'd probably buy.)

They're olive suede, but I dared greatly to wear them in the muck & slush, and they came out of it looking just fine. I've had them repaired twice, and they continue to be comfy and impervious to the elements.

I find that the calves of La Canadienne boots run narrow, so for big-calved me it is ankle boots or nothing -- but oh, they're so worth it.

I, too, have a pair of La Canadiennes, and they are absolutely my go-to boot for the bad weather! They stomp through puddles/snow/salty slush, then wipe clean to look hot with a dress--all while keeping my feet toasty and comfortable, even when I'm on them all day. I have never had shoes SO worth $250.

I wore black Katrinas yesterday to a funeral. Some sleet mixed with rain began falling when we had all reached the gravesite. The lack of umbrellas gave the men a chance to cry unnoticed because all our faces were streaked with sleet, rain and tears. On our way back to the cars, I noticed the uneven, partially frozen ground was muddy in places. My feet remained warm and dry. The Katrinas were in perfect shape when I removed them that evening; there was just a little mud on the rubber soles that came off easily. I'm glad I bought the grey Katrinas too.

I have a tall suede La Canadienne boot and I love them. I bought them last year but hardly wore them due to a mild winter. I brought them out of the closet this year due to a much harsher winter. They have remained stylish through salt, slush and ice.

I wish I knew what my daughter bought. Stylistically and techically they are somewhere between the black boots and the Vasque boots. She wore them in Montreal this winter and was comfortable, but felt comfortable in high-end restaurants. I'll have to find out.
